DIY Faux Shiplap Accent Wall Sneak Peek

Hey friends! Remember all those posts hopeful DIY home improvement projects I have been talking about since January? Well, I haven’t gotten around to any of the ones on my list!  Instead I have changed directions a bit and started working on the dining room which was a little further down on the priority list. This weekend my husband and I installed a faux shiplap accent wall in the dining room and so far it is looking great. Here is a sneak peek!

I had not really thought seriously about using shiplap in the dining room until I was taking some photos for my Early Spring Home Tour.  As I was editing the photos, I realized that the farmhouse style of our dining room would be enhanced by a bit of shiplap.  I decided to create a faux shiplap accent wall on the original exterior wall which is now separates the dining room from a family room addition.

    In the process…

Here is the wall after being primed. It’s coming along!

If you would like to create a faux shiplap wall using inexpensive wood, there are so many great tutorials online. If you have a table saw like the ones found here at The Sharp Cut, you can even rip your own boards out of plywood underlayment to create a faux shiplap wall rather inexpensively.

    DIY Shiplap

Last year I was really wanting to add shiplap to the entryway just off from our kitchen, but I don’t have experience using a table saw which most of these tutorials require. My husband didn’t have any free time to cut the wood, so I decided to get creative. I used some inexpensive peel and stick faux plank wood vinyl flooring to create my shiplap, and it worked! You can read all about it here.

For the dining room we used a better quality, faux wood peel and stick vinyl flooring that looks just like wood. After painting it the wood grain really came out! I suggest checking out some DIY flooring tips online to compare some of the different sizes and depth of grain in faux wood vinyl flooring if you are thinking of trying this project.

I am so pleased with how well this project is going and I can’t wait to finish up the painting and make a few more changes to the dining room decor. I am wanting to add a few more salvaged garden style finds for spring. I would like to incorporate some unique upcycled junk, like an old rake repurposed as a wine glass holder or some other fun ways to display my vintage dishes.

Who knows what I will find on my spring junkin’ adventures! Hopefully by the end of April I will be able to share a full reveal post on the DIY Faux Shiplap Accent Wall, and a reveal of the dining room refresh. Be sure to sign up by email if you haven’t already and keep watching for updates, I think you will enjoy the post!

    Happy Spring!

Wishing You A Blessed Palm Sunday

    Palm Sunday Matthew 21

Hello dear friends! I just want to wish everyone a blessed Palm Sunday, and to take this time to give glory to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ our savior. Hosanna in the highest!

Palm Sunday vintage- we will come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves!

    Matthew 21

21 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,

Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

With all the fun and excitement that comes along with secular Easter activities, let us not forget to focus on the true meaning of Easter, the passion of Christ and his glorious resurrection. What a blessed hope! Hosanna in the highest!

    Happy Easter time!
