Hello friends! I am pleased to have my special Instagram friend Laura of The Classic Cottage here to share another guest post with us! Laura has the most gorgeous Instagram feed full of photos of her beautiful cottage decorated with farmhouse and vintage cottage style decor. Today she is sharing tips for creating a simply beautiful farmhouse Thanksgiving tablescape. Welcome Laura!
Thanksgiving is an extra special holiday where we gather with family and friends and reflect on all of the people and things we are blessed with and are thankful for. It’s also a holiday that consists of a lot of delicious food! We all have our favorites-turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie just to name a few.
What better way to celebrate this wonderful holiday than on a beautifully decorated table! Over the years I have discovered, through much trial and error, that “beautifully decorated” doesn’t necessarily mean “over the top” where there is no place to place the food! The Thanksgiving table is a place that should feel pretty, welcoming and most importantly needs to be functional.
On our Thanksgiving table, I first chose a simple table runner in a neutral color. I can tweak the rest of my tablescape and change the colors if I wish without having to start from scratch if I change my mind.
Next, I place my centerpiece. I prefer to have a centerpiece in a container so that it can be easily removed if the table seems too crowded. These wooden vases with two fall stems are colorful and festive or this dough bowl filled with leaves and a colorful variety pumpkins adds life and texture to the table.

Either centerpiece works and depending on the number of guests you have, you can adjust the size of the centerpiece you’d like to use.
Lastly, I set the place settings. I use a neutral textured charger to add more dimension and texture. I layer my everyday white dishes with a patterned plate and a small solid plate.
I have also learned that depending on the number of guests you’re serving, you may not have enough of the same dishes. That is perfectly ok! Mix and match the dishes you do have with dishes in the same color palate and alternate place settings. It’s adds more interest and makes it fun!
Whichever tablescape you use, your guests will be thrilled to enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday with you. I hope you create some beautiful memories and eat some delicious food!
