Hello and welcome to the Beautiful Bedrooms Tour hosted by Tammy at Pink Pineapple Design! I am so excited to be part of a wonderful group of twenty bloggers sharing our bedrooms this week. If you are coming over from Spicy Salty Sweet Home, welcome! When I found out about the opportunity to join the Beautiful Bedrooms Tour less than two weeks ago, I decided to do my own little one room challenge…with only about ten days to get the room ready for the tour! While the bedroom isn’t “finished,” the makeover is off to a great start. Come on in and take a look around at what I accomplished so far! *This post contains affiliate links.
Today is the first time I have ever shown our bedroom on the blog! With only a mattress set on a bed frame, a white bedspread, old sheets and no style whatsoever, our bedroom was the furthest thing from “blog worthy,” “pinworthy” or “instaworthy” just a couple of weeks ago, but somehow everything came together just in time for the tour.
For a long time I have been dreaming of creating a traditional cottage bedroom, with a mix of masculine and feminine touches and European charm. With the Beautiful Bedrooms Tour on the agenda, I excitedly jumped right into the bedroom makeover! Our house was built in 1921, and with all the dark, original woodwork, embracing traditional cottage style has been a great design choice for this home.
After seventeen years of marriage, we (William & Amber) finally have a brand new headboard and even new bedding! Good things come to those who wait (and then rush to get things done at the last minute for a blogger tour)! The plain white comforter and old sheets that we have been using for a while just weren’t going to cut it for a beautiful bedrooms tour, so it was definitely time for some new bedding and textiles too.
I have always loved the English cottage look along with the rustic and feminine mix of florals and plaids. I just happened to luck into an amazing clearance deal on this gorgeous Ralph Lauren bedding last weekend at Kohl’s. Having Scottish heritage by ancestry and marriage, I have always been mad for plaid! I also love traditional Southern style, English cottage and shabby French Country styles, so this bedding is just perfect! When I shared my Dreamy Bedrooms post back in the winter, I had actually included some rooms with similar bedding for style inspiration.
Years ago my husband refinished an antique chifferobe in a dark espresso stain, and it is one of our favorite pieces of furniture. I knew I wanted a tufted linen headboard to soften things up and to add a bit of fresh French Country style to the room. We had discussed a DIY tufted headboard, but I lucked into an unbelievable steal on this beautiful headboard at Home Goods just in time for this tour, for cheaper than the cost of DIY materials!
Headboard…check. Bedding…check. A cute little vintage side table and shabby lamp with crystal prisms (purchased at a thrift shop for next to nothing)… Check. A French basket that I bought for another spot in the house, (which didn’t really do much for that particular spot) but now fits perfectly under the bedside table for holding extra cuddly throws? Check. Our beautiful bedroom starting coming together bit by bit over a matter of a few days!
Ok. So maybe the use of plaid, a few highland deer decorative accents, and the romantic mix of French, English and Scottish styles may have been just a wee bit influenced by my current reading choice!
Actually quite a bit of reading is done in our bedroom, and we have created a little library retreat in here. Last summer I found this beautiful bookcase set at a second hand shop for super cheap and I couldn’t pass it up. The bookcases have basically been holding junk until this week, but the new addition of some hyacinth baskets keeps things organized and prevents the traditional styling from looking too “dated” at the same time.
In addition to the baskets I have styled the bookshelves with some favorite books, English and equestrian junkin’ finds, and some cottage style decorative accents.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend Vintage Market Days of West Columbus, Ohio as a guest blogger (blog post coming up next week)! Of course I did some junkin’ while I was there. My favorite find is this Kentucky horse pillow, perfect for our 1920’s old Kentucky home, and just in time for the Kentucky Derby too!
A few equestrian touches are definitely in keeping with the traditional English cottage vibe of the room. Random fact…Did you know the queen of England keeps some of her top show horses in Lexington, KY? Lexington is beautiful horse country!
I love that I finally have a place to display my hoards collection of home decor, interior design, and gardening books instead of having them spread out all over the house. We are also working on building a library of classics, so it will be fun to start hunting for them on my junkin’ adventures this summer.
Well I hope you have enjoyed this bedroom reveal today! There is still one side of the room I am working on, and I will be sharing it in an upcoming post later this summer. We didn’t have a chance to repaint the room either, so I will be repainting with a new color too! Even though there are still some things to do to the room, I am thrilled with the progress so far. It’s quite an improvement from where it was just two weeks ago, wouldn’t you agree?
If you love before and afters, be sure to subscribe by email so you don’t miss the rest of the makeover and all the other fun home improvement, decorating and craft projects that are always going on around here!
I have been a busy bee working hard getting ready for the tour, so I can’t wait to crawl into my comfy bed and relax with a good book. I recently finished book one of the Outlander series, and after spending some dream time in Scotland, now it’s time to curl up in my cuddly new sheets and head off for some adventures in France in book two. Fais de beaux reves! Sweet dreams!
Next up on the tour is Almafied, so be sure to head on over now to check out her amazing chic style! If you missed the rest of the inspiring tour, you can find the links to each blog below.

Your room turned out fabulous! I’m a real fan of Ralph Lauren and that bedding you bought is perfect. Especially loved the deer touch around the room with the horns in a frame on the wall. You really did a perfect job of putting this all together.

May 3, 2018 at 7:22 pmThank you so much Ashley! I actually didn’t buy the sheets when I got the bedspread. I came home and thought about them all evening and realized I should have bought them, especially with only one set left on clearance! I rushed back the next day and got them and I am so glad I did. The mix of patterns really makes this bedding fun! I loved how you mixed patterns on your bed too, and I especially love the plaid blanket in the pastel colors!

May 9, 2018 at 11:25 pmOMW that’s just gorgeous. I would never want to leave. All the bits and pieces work so well together in the space. I’ve always wanted a cottage style bedroom, but the hubby is not a big floral fan, meh… so I’ll be living up my dream through your beautiful one, if that’s okay
May 10, 2018 at 2:31 amThank you so much! The good thing about this bedding is that we can switch to plaid. I think that is why he compromised haha! We will switch it in the fall for a whole new look. Yes you are welcome to dream here! I love to inspire. I hope you will check back later this summer. I still have one wall and corner of the room I didn’t show because I didn’t get to finish it up and I have some good ideas for it. I am hoping it will all come together over the summer and I can do another fall bedroom tour post. I hope you will come back again!
