I am a junkaholic. Or at least I think I think I am. I love a good rummage sale and prefer to spend my free time on the hunt for anything vintage. My previous blog and IG name, “Junkaholics Unanimous” was a play on my addiction to junkin’ and being proud of it. On my blog I called for all vintage junk addicts to proudly unite along with me, and many did! One day I was discussing the ideas for my new blog with my dear blogging friend Olivia at Reinvented Collection. She has a stunning blog and gorgeous French style. She has been such a blessing to me as I have jumped back on the blogging horse and I truly value her opinion and expertise.
We were discussing whether or not to keep my old name on Instagram and other social media accounts when I launched Follow The Yellow Brick Home. Out of nowhere she said, “Amber! ‘Junkaholic’ does NOT represent your style!” One thing about Olivia—she is a straight shooter!
What? Why? How? Junk IS my style. I love anything chipping, rusty, crusty, old…junky! Olivia is in Alaska, so she hasn’t had the opportunity to see my collections of jars of antique marbles, vintage buttons, and mismatched game pieces, hoards of vintage pearls, or stacks of antique post cards curated neatly around my home. Neatly. Yikes! So maybe I am not be a hoarder? I might be having a crisis of identity!
After listening to her reasoning I began to agree with her. I love to go junkin’, but I really do have a more brocante and shabby-French Farmhouse style. I don’t have hoards of rusty metal and salvaged wood piled up behind the garage (anymore). Inside the garage is a different matter…
Let’s take a look at some of my recent finds that support Olivia’s opinon. Read more
Hello there! It’s going to be a busy day right? Do you have a “to-do” list a mile long for the day or week ahead? I know I have a thousand things I would like to accomplish, and I am sure you do too. Let’s get to it!
“But First, Coffee.”
We have all seen this slogan on cute coffee mugs, farmhouse signs, chalkboards and even t-shirts. It’s a well-known fact that coffee practically fuels our world! But where is our true power source? Shouldn’t we really be saying, “But first, Jesus” instead? Coffee is fine, (it’s green tea for me, thanks), but the issue is whether or not Jesus is our top priority. I know I have had to take a closer look at my own priorities lately, and I quickly realized that Jesus most certainly has not been first.
It’s been an exciting week as my long awaited new blog has finally become a reality. I have barely been able to sleep with all the creative ideas running through my mind. Although I have blogged in the past, a chronic long term illness resulted in sporadic blogging and eventually a total hiatus. As with all things technology related, so much has changed and there are many new things to learn, but I am a born go-getter, and when I put my mind to something it’s all or nothing! Read more
It’s early spring, and that means that gardening time is fast approaching! Already my oregano, thyme, and lemon balm are making appearances in the herb garden right outside my kitchen door. Herbs are one of my deep passions, and I use them in all their forms. Whether growing them, drying them for use in recipes or decor, or using them holistically in herbal medicines, diffusing oils, or organic beauty and homemade green cleaning products, herbs bring me so much joy! I have a green thumb, and the fragrance of fresh herbs is one of my favorite scents on earth. So why am I using faux herbs in my kitchen instead of growing my own? Read more
