The Simplest Fall Bittersweet Wreath

DIY Bittersweet wreath

Hello friends! Today I am am just sharing a quick post about how to create a simple fall bittersweet wreath. Years ago I fell in love with Martha’s natural bittersweet wreath and hoped to make one some day.

The problem over the years is that I could only seem to find little bits of dried bittersweet (at a hefty price) at some primitive shops.

Imagine my surprise year before last when I discovered profuse amounts of bittersweet growing along the rock wall just across the street! I shared more about that joyous fall day in my post, Foraging for Bittersweet (Well, sort of!).

I had already picked up a couple of grapevine wreaths on sale at Michael’s, so I was ready to get started! I cut a huge garbage bag full to use for the wreath and indoor fall decroating as well I began by separating out the longest and most pliable cuttings to use for the wreath from the shorter branches that could be used in other ways. There really isn’t much of a tutorial for this wreath to share. I simply stuck the ends of the vines way down in the wreath until the ends felt good and secure. Then I just took the trailing vines around the wreath, securing the branches at midway sections so that the ends were more loose and free form looking and that was all there is to it!

I used extra pieces to drape over the antique salvaged tin tile planter in the garden, and various places indoors.

This was THE EASIEST wreath I have ever made! I encourage you to look around your neighborhood and along the sides of roads for wild bittersweet. It is invasive so it can often be found there.
