Hello everyone! I am so excited to be joining 24 talented bloggers this week for the Spring Festival Blog Hop hosted by Kendra of Joy In Our Home! Each day of the week there is a different spring theme, and today’s theme is vignettes. If you are coming over from Anderson + Grant or if you are just visiting today, I am delighted to have you here. I love vignette styling so I am thrilled to be sharing the vintage cottage and garden style spring vignettes that I have created around our home.
Last week I shared my spring home tour with lots of ideas for Easy Spring Decorating with Bunnies, Birds, and Blooms. To get started, let’s take a closer look at some of the vignettes from my home tour.
I haven’t really started decorating specifically for Easter just yet, but a couple of bunnies and eggs are making their way into vignettes along with spring flowers, nests and birds.
Several times throughout the seasons I change up the styled tray vignettes on top of the vintage steamer trunk that we use as a coffee table in our living room. Since it is March I like to use a lot of green in my vignettes with little hints of more vivid color that is to come in April and May. Right now I am pulling out the pink in my new Pottery Barn pillow covers using fresh pink tulips on the mantel and in the styled tray vignette on the trunk.
In this vignette, my new Mr. bunny is coming out of the mossy woodland full of ferns to discover a tulip blooming in the meadow that borders the edge of the forest (I am always using my imagination when I decorate!)
Prior to finding the bunny, I styled the tray for early March with a spring woodland theme. The vintage Non-Flowering Plants book was the main inspiration for the vignette. I am enjoying the book so much that I will probably keep it in on display from now through summer. I filled a hurricane candle lamp with moss and various ferns and bracken to go along with the spring woodland theme.
I recently found this awesome bunny at Home Goods and I thought he would be perfect for changing up the vignette after St. Patrick’s Day. The original finish was a little too dark, so I gave him a whitewash with chalk paint. I think the little mossy eggs are perfect for this vignette too.
The trunk vignette theme ties in with the mantel styling where I also used chippy shabby treasures, moss spheres, birds, and some pretty pink tulips.
Since our living room and dining room are only separated by a pair of French doors, I like for the vignettes and styling throughout the two rooms to flow seamlessly. On the large antique buffet in the living room I kept the green and neutral cottage garden style theme. I incorporated more of my shabby chic, vintage and found treasures mixed in with moss spheres, Easter eggs, bunnies, birds and blooms.
The focal point of the vignette is a large cloche on a wooden pedestal. A white garden bunny and a few little mossy rocks and garden treasures are inside the cloche. Here I had my small dough bowl styled to the left of the cloche, but I ended up moving it to the dining room for the Pinterest Centerpiece Challenge that I participated in last week.
To the right of the cloche is a treasure-filled chippy urn, a little bird nesting in a whitewashed clay pot and an old white salvaged spindle thrown in for junky-chic good measure. I borrowed the moss sphere topped candlesticks from my Early Spring Dining Room Tablescape for this photo, but I have since found some different candle holders. The sun didn’t cooperate for me to get any photos of them but as soon as it is sunny I will update this post with pictures of the new candlesticks too.
I have already changed the buffet styling several times as inspiration strikes. I ended up filling the urn with diy tattered books, green Easter eggs, faux herbs, and some antler sheds that I embellished with succulents and moss.
Here you can get a peek of the “spring garden-green” that is happening in the dining room too. Let’s head on in to check out more spring vignettes.
I recently painted this vintage cabinet green (future bathroom vanity) and moved it up from storage in the basement to enjoy for spring. The top of the cabinet provided the perfect spot for styling up a spring vignette for the “Spring Is In The Air” Pinterest Centerpiece Challenge.
I moved my little whitewashed dough bowl from the living room buffet and filled it with a few more mossy eggs and spring garden goodies.
If you are a regular blog reader then you already know I love using faux and fresh herbs all around our home. You are likely to see several of the same faux herbs and herb planters appear in different posts all throughout spring and summer. The burlap carrot is a new find along with the thrifty shabby bunny and I just love them both.
Just like the buffet in the living room, I have changed the vignettes in the dining room several times. I truly do enjoy playing around with my treasures.
There are vignettes tucked in every corner of our home. When I run out of tabletop or shelf space, I think outside the box and use baskets to create “basket vignettes.”
This Frenchy basket holds a favorite antique mirror and a pretty vintage ironstone pitcher filled with some of the most beautiful faux tulips.
I used to be totally opposed to faux flowers, but they have come a long way! I love decorating with them now.
In the kitchen I have used a combination of fresh daffodils and faux paperwhites to brighten up the breakfast nook. Paperwhites and daffodils are in bloom this week in Eastern Kentucky!
I used a combination of vintage ironstone pieces to create the vignette on the corner ledge behind the banquette seating. The two antique English ironstone pieces are finds from late winter and now I am definitely on the hunt for more!
Combining realistic faux flowers with fresh flowers is one of my favorite design tricks. Really nice faux florals are almost indistinguishable from real flowers when they are displayed together in vignettes or bouquets.
I have saved my favorite spring vignette for last! I styled this little table vignette at the top of the stairs after I got the idea to enlarge a piece of vintage sheet music for artwork. Since I am a music teacher and I give piano lessons in my home (and I love spring flowers!) I think it truly is perfect!
Once again I used a combination of faux and fresh flowers. All the tulips are faux, and all the daffodils are fresh. If you love daffodils, be sure to check out my post, Dreaming of Daffodils: Early Spring Decorating Ideas.
I made a “bouquet” using rolls of vintage sheet music, daffodils and faux tulips to place in an urn. I wrapped the pot of pink charm daffodils with antique sheet music and placed them in another favorite footed urn. A moss sphere, shabby bird (from Home Goods) and a vintage daffodil botanical print in a vintage frame complete the vignette.
