Well friends, we’ve officially made it…tomorrow is the first day of spring! Are you looking for spring decor inspiration? If so, then you have definitely come to the right place! This week I am part of a group of thirty bloggers who are celebrating the arrival of spring with the annual Spring Home Tours hosted by fabulous Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. If you are coming over from Monica Wants It or if you are just stopping by again today, I am very happy to have you here. Let’s welcome spring together!
We have been having some nice early spring weather here in Kentucky this past week with beautiful sunshine and temperatures in the mid 50’s-60’s. It’s still a little too cold to do much decorating out on the porch, but I wanted something different for early spring on our front door. Since daffodils and forsythia are blooming all over our town, I took cues from nature for inspiration. I filled a long skinny basket with trailing faux greenery, faux forsythia and pussy willow branches.
I added some beautiful daffodils (freshly picked from the yard) especially for today’s tour.
Spring is in bloom inside our home too! This year I have kept things simple with easy spring decorating with bunnies, birds and blooms. Before we tour the living room I want to show you my “new” artwork and spring vignette at the top of the stairs.
I was searching online for free spring flower botanical images to make a poster for the top of the stairs when I came across a beautiful printable of “Spring Flowers” antique sheet music. Since I am a music teacher and I give piano lessons in my home, I knew the printable would be perfect!
I took the vintage empty frame to the print shop and had the image sized to fit the frame. There are so many beautiful details in the graphic. I just love it!
I also printed off a single vintage daffodil image and placed it in an antique frame. I used a mix of faux and fresh tulips and daffodils mixed in with vintage treasures from around the house to create this vignette which truly puts a spring song in my heart! I decorate primarily with neutrals but I love adding pops of color like I have done here. Let’s head back down to the living room to see how I am adding spring color there too.
A couple of weeks ago I shared how I have been welcoming early spring using green plants and decorative accessories. I am still loving lots of green and I have since started adding little pops of color. Some new throw pillow covers from Pottery Barn were all that was needed to completely change the look of the living room for spring.
While I haven’t started decorating specifically for Easter, a couple of bunnies have hopped into the decor this week. If you look closely you may find a few mossy Easter eggs hidden here and there. There are also little birds nesting in different vignettes.
Every spring I enjoy decorating with a vintage garden style theme using both faux and fresh greenery, flowers, plants, herbs, birds and bird nests, several varieties of moss and various pots, urns, and garden ornaments. I love creating vintage spring garden vignettes!
On Tuesday I will be participating in another round of spring home tours where I will be sharing some different spring vignettes including my antique buffet. Be sure to stop back by to see more of my vintage spring “cottage” garden style.
In addition to bunnies, tulips, and mossy eggs, I am still enjoying this vintage Non-Flowering Plants book that I shared in my Welcoming Spring with Bits O’ Green post.
While we typically associate spring with flowers and gardening, the forest is also greening up again with vibrant ferns, moss, bracken, and birds busily making nests. Spring also makes me think of junkin’ adventures at yard sales and vintage markets where treasures like rusty old green door hinges, vintage flower frogs, and colorful glass bottles are waiting to be discovered!
I like using moss balls and boxwood spheres in my spring and summer decor. I just made a couple of DIY boxwood sphere topiaries for each side of the mantel and I love how they turned out. The green spheres really pull out the green in the pretty pillow covers. I will be sharing the topiary DIY post on Friday.
Last year I found this “Flower Heights By Season” pillow at Target and it is definitely one of my favorites. It’s great that I can keep it out from now through June.
I wanted to bring out the pink in the pillow covers too, and a small bouquet of tulips on the mantel did the trick. I have styled the mantel simply for early spring by adding just a few spring references in with my every day neutral candlesticks, neutral books, shabby French urns and ironstone platters. A pair of cathedral mirrors and curtains on the windows on each side of the fireplace are new since last spring’s home tour.
A glass demijohn with pussy willow branches, a succulent topped urn, pink tulips, and a branch with pretty birds hearken the arrival of spring.
These elegant moss spheres are perfect for spring but actually work beautifully for any decor year round.
Since our living room opens right into the dining room, I like to create a cohesive look with colors and decorative accents. I am also using several moss spheres in my dining room decor. I recently shared my Rustic Farmhouse St. Patrick’s Day Tablescape which has lots of beautiful green accents.
After St. Patrick’s Day I simply removed the plates, gold coins, shamrocks, and gold flatware and shamrock ribbon. Everything else about this tablescape still looks perfect for early spring.
For more spring green I brought up my ficus tree from the basement and put it back in the corner beside my French chair. I created a little French flea market style basket vignette using my favorite vintage mirror and a pretty vintage ironstone pitcher full of faux white tulips.
I fell in love with the ornate details of this beautiful mirror and the mostly green spring nature scene. I don’t really have the perfect wall spot for this mirror but that doesn’t stop me from finding a creative way to display it so I can enjoy it’s beauty.
The same goes for this vintage cabinet that has been in storage waiting to become a bathroom vanity when we build our new bathroom. I don’t really have the perfect spot for it, but instead of keeping it storage I decided to paint it green for spring, then I moved it to the dining room to enjoy for a while.
On Monday I participated in a fun Pinterest centerpiece challenge with a group of blogging friends. The top of the cabinet was the perfect spot for styling up my “Spring Is In The Air” dough bowl vignette.
This adorable bunny was a recent thrift store find and I think it is just the cutest! I am loving the burlap carrot too.
Little bunny is nibbling all the garden goodies along with some daffodils from our yard.
Some bunny loves daffodils and as much as I do! I picked several more daffodils for bouquets to add spring vibes to the kitchen too. For ideas on decorating with daffodils, check out my post: Dreaming of Daffodils: Early Spring Decorating Ideas.
Before heading into the kitchen I wanted to show you the awesome French lily (Le Lis) vintage style botanical canvas I found at Hobby Lobby that is hanging on the butler door between the dining room and kitchen. Love it!
I placed the bouquets of daffodils in the kitchen corner breakfast nook. The pops of yellow just make the kitchen seem so bright and happy!
Even though I have had my farmhouse paperwhites sign and faux paperwhites on display since mid-winter, paperwhites are just now blooming this week in Kentucky. I figured I would just add some daffodils in the mix to make the corner look a bit more spring-like.
Daffodils and paperwhites are both spring flowering bulbs from the genus Narcissus. I love the spring mix of delicate white and yellow petals.
I am really enjoying spring nesting around our home! I am certainly ready for the warm weather and sunshine to stay, how about you?
I hope you have been inspired by touring my home today! As you can see it is so easy to decorate for spring using bunnies, birds, and blooms (plants and moss spheres too!) Spring is just getting started so I will be sharing another spring tour or two throughout the season. If you enjoyed today’s post please be sure to sign up to become an email subscriber at the end of this post (you will only receive one weekly newsletter with all the latest posts and news about upcoming events). I love keeping in touch with you!
Now it’s time to continue on with the beautiful spring home tours. Next up is Hymns and Verses. I know you will enjoy Doreen’s pink spring decor! You can visit all of the other tours this week via the links below.
Happy Spring!
