Welcome dear readers! I am so excited to have my friend Stacey of Poofing the Pillows here today to share a guest post of her pretty home decorated for summer. Enjoy!
Hey friends! Welcome to our summer home. I’m Stacey and many of you will know that I blogged at Poofing the Pillows for ten years. Last fall I decided it was time to step away from that platform and I’m just having fun over on Instagram and Facebook. Amber, thank you so much for inviting me here to share.
We moved into our home two years ago this past June. Building this house was a dream come true! We went to a designer, drew the plans, and did everything from the ground up. We picked every single thing in this house and we love it all. Our house is one story on an acre and a half in north Texas. We wanted to live in this particular spot because we love gardening and wanted plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. I’ve jokingly described this house as French country/farmhouse/Southern Living/cottage all rolled into one.
My favorite room in the house is without a doubt, the kitchen. I didn’t have an exact vision in mind as we were going along other than wanting white cabinets. I spent many hours on Pinterest and perusing magazines to come up with the final look. Our kitchen island is painted Sherwin Williams Watery along with the inside of the front door. We love it!
The builder suggested a barrel ceiling in the kitchen and it was love at first sight when they began the framing process. We ended up with a wall of open shelves in the eating area when the bid for the cabinets came back way over budget. The open shelves turned out to be a happy accident because we enjoy moving things around and displaying different pieces. This is also the perfect space for serving food when we have gatherings.
The main area of our home is one large space that encompasses the entry, formal dining, family room, kitchen and eating area. There’s no hiding a mess here! For many years we decorated with deep colors including lots of red. We loved it so much but it was time for a change.
This house is very light and bright. The comment was made on my blog once or twice that there was too much white. That didn’t bother me at all because we all live in our own homes and should do what we love. We feel calm and peaceful here.
As far as decorating goes, I’m probably a minimalist to some people….well my friends think I am. I love to look at lots of stuff in other homes but in our own space I prefer what I call spots of pretty. I rotate pretty things in and out of closets so there’s never too much going on.
Those spots of pretty apply to the seasons too. In summer you will find mostly lots of fresh flowers from our gardens in our house to represent the season. Of course, I also freshen up the pillows each season which is one of the easiest changes you can make.
We live super casual lives but we love to gather friends and family here as often as possible. There’s definitely an advantage to having an open living space for gatherings because we can all be together but spread out over two dining tables or the bar. In the two years we’ve lived here, we’ve had Christmases, a college graduation party, a wedding celebration, an 80th birthday party for my dad, and more.
Our homes are meant to be shared so my advice is to throw the doors open and grab your paper plates!
