Give Thanks Tablescape: Turkeys In The Straw Dining Room Tour

Welcome! I am so grateful to be joining some wonderful bloggers today for the Give Thanks Tablescape Blog Tour hosted by the lovely Katherine over at Katherine’s Corner!   This year I have created a fun, yet elegant “Turkeys In The Straw” tablescape using vintage and natural treasures that I am really enjoying, especially since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. My vintage turkey planters are also on display around the dining room so I will be sharing those as well. Come on in and gather around the table for a closer look!

Elegant Cottage Style Thanksgiving Tablescape vintage

Earlier this month I shared my kitchen tour as part of the Grateful Gatherings Blog Hop. The dining room is right off from the kitchen through an original, early 1920’s swinging butler door. Here is where our family and friends gather around our authentic 100+ year-old farm table to enjoy daily meals and special holiday get togethers. I have adorned the table with vintage turkeys, dishes, and other found objects that are lovely and dear to my heart.

Creative holiday doughbowl display with vintage dishes and rustic elements

Our farm table is a well loved and well used, especially during the holidays! It is usually kept clutter free, with only a seasonal centerpiece of some kind. When it comes to Thanksgiving and Christmas however, I always try to come up with something extra special. This year I created a “Turkeys In The Straw” centerpiece which I really love. I filled a wooden dough bowl full of craft straw, pine cones, antlers, feathers, dried roses, vintage turkeys, and a set of Johnson Brothers “His Majesty” turkey tea cups and saucers.

I always pull out my vintage Myott’s Bouquet dishes for Thanksgiving due to the lovely autumnal tones in the design.

Antique and vintage postcards are tucked here and there around the dining room too. This beautiful Thanksgiving postcard is postmarked 1917, now 100 years old!

I knew I wanted to use my Myotts Bouquet dishes, and I also knew I wanted to create a “turkeys in the straw” theme, but other than that I had no idea how this tablescape would end up. In my usual fashion, I just started grabbing things I already had on hand and everything just seemed to come together. I am always happiest with my decor when I create unique designs using things that are part of my own collections instead of buying new/retail decor. I did purchase a set of beautiful and elegant gold rimmed stemware specifically for this tablescape. I found them at…Dollar Tree! I was blown away when I saw the elegant white and gold rimmed china dishes and wine glasses at only $1.00 each. I am thinking about purchasing the plates too! If you are interested in any of the pieces in this collection you can purchase them here.

Whenever I design or decorate any space, I hope to make my family, friends, and blog readers feel welcome and cozy when visiting or touring my home. Creating a welcoming ambiance and mood is very important to me. I decorate with my heart, and with intent to evoke a happy memory or to help create new ones associated with special occasions. Although I use mostly vintage and antique decor, I strive to make our home feel comfortable, livable, and relaxed…never stuffy or fragile.

Candles are always a good idea, even when the sun is shining. Nothing seems to take an otherwise mundane day to “special ocassion” faster than lighting a few lovely candles. I use them often, because every day is a gift, worthy of celebrating!Beautfiul Thanksgiving Tablescape

Although I am quite confident in my ability to create fun and interesting vintage vignettes, I have never considered myself to be a “tablescaper,” and I don’t really make a fuss over setting the table “properly.” I stick with my motto of decorating with things I love! I do challenge myself to try to top my previous year’s decor and to push my creative limits.

I had originally intended to fill the dough bowl full of  an army of vintage turkey planters, but as I was decorating I kept finding other really cute places to put the planters all around the dining room. This left me with only a couple of vintage Gurley candles for the centerpiece.

I was about to abandon the idea altogether of the “turkeys in the straw theme” but then I had a fun idea at the last minute to put my turkey dishes in the dough bowl along with the candles and I just love it!

I am dish collector and I love displaying my collections in unusual and creative ways so I am really enjoying this centerpiece!

These little vintage Gurley candles are very desirable and therefore hard to find. It could also be that they have all melted in hot attics over the years. I used to have three but one succumbed to that fate.Vintage Thanksgiving centerpiece doughbowl filled with vintage dishes and candles for Thanksgiving

I filled my doughbowl with lots of straw and began arranging the dishes in various directions so that each person seated will have a turkey or two to enjoy within eyesight. I filled in gaps with bleached pinecones, faux wheat, pheasant feathers, gold feathers, small pomegranates, deer antlers and dried roses.

Unique Thanksgiving Centerpiece using vintage elements Pomegranates antlers

I absolutely love all the juxtaposition of color and textures in this centerpiece.

On the first day I started working on this post I took a little break and went junkin’ to see if I could score maybe another turkey or two. I didn’t find any turkeys, but I did come across four brass candlesticks to use in my tablescape along with a couple others I already had. I put three in the middle and two on each side of the dough bowl.

Organic Cranberry-Pomegranate juice is always served for Thanksgiving at our house. The combination of cranberries and pomegranates is delightful to the taste buds and the eyes!

I always use cranberries in my Thanksgiving decor. Most of the time they are on display in some little dish or container. This year I used pomegranates too and I love all the pops of red which are suggestive of the Christmas season that is rapidly approaching.

Recently I got creative and used some cranberries to make a garland of my original design. In my previous post I shared how to make the beautiful, fresh cranberry, sage, and bay leaf garland seen below.

This year we are having a belated extended family Thanksgiving, so for now our table is just set for the four in our immediate family. This left two spaces on either end of the table for some amazing vintage pheasants. My husband found them last week at an estate sale and they were just the “wow” pieces I needed to finish my table design.

My vintage feathered friends, the turkeys and pheasants, share the table for the holiday season. Even after Thanksgiving, the pheasants and a few favorite turkeys will remain on display through the New Year, as both birds are traditionally associated with holiday feasts. Gorgeous vintage Pheasant in a shabby chic dining room farmhouse Thanksgiving tablescape

My vintage Native American chalkware statue is a like a stealth hunter, hiding just out of sight below the table, among some antique crocks filled with  dried hyndrangeas and preserved fall foliage. He must spy the tasty pheasants and turkeys all around the room! You can read more about this interesting statue here: Fantastic Fall Find: Vintage Native American Chalkware Statue.

Two other vintage turkeys (planters)” in the straw” are hiding way up high on chippy candle sconces on each side of a faux fireplace that I created from a salvaged mantel and an antique buffet mirror.

This beautiful turkey sits proudly up high on the very top of the salvaged antique buffet mirror. He just matches a larger vintage turkey planter which is displayed across the dining room on the antique secretary.

Here you can see how the pheasants and turkeys all live in beautiful harmony in the dining room! Let’s take a closer look at some of the vintage treasures on the secretary in the background.

I keep my collection of silverplate on this beautiful antique secretary. I think this vintage turkey planter repurposed as a tarnished silverplate utensil holder is my favorite turkey this year!

    Beautiful Thanksgiving Vignette Shabby Chic

I recently discovered these pretty gold feathers which make very nice little accents in vignettes with old metals. They look so pretty for fall but they will also be nice to use in Christmas crafts. (Note: If you smell something burning…it is! I was taking pictures and couldn’t figure out where the burning smell was coming from. I followed my nose to a toasted rose! No harm done though. The rose just has a nice “patina” now!) As for following my nose, it’s time to finish up this post so I can get started on the aromatic Thanksgiving meal prep! Only two more days until we “gobble til we wobble!”

I certainly hope this post finds you feeling inspired, and maybe just a wee bit hungry as you think of the upcoming tasty feast! In closing I will share this 100 year old Thanksgiving Greeting with you:

Rebekah was kind enough to help me capture some difficult shots while I am waiting (hopefully) for Santa to bring me a big girl blogger camera! Rebekah will be photographing my home for Christmas as well so I hope you will plan to visit the blog often during the holidays!

Fresh Cranberry, Sage, And Bay Leaf Garland

Well friends, here we are just one week away from Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season! I have been working on my Thanksgiving tablescape and adding lots of festive touches that will easily transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Last night I was thinking that I wanted to use cranberries and sage in my holiday decor, so I decided to make a beautiful, fresh and fragrant garland for my chandelier in the dining room.

Target Introduces Hearth And Hand: Fixer Upper Style Holiday Must-Haves

Target Introduces the Hearth & Hand Line with Magnolia

Welcome! This weekend I happened to stop by Target to pick up a few Christmas gifts and I had a chance to take a look at the new Hearth & Hand With Magnolia line that everyone is talking about over on Instagram and in the decor world. I really liked some of the new products and wanted to share them with you today. If you are a Fixer Upper enthusiast, here are some “must-haves” that I think you will love!  (This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience.)

If you are unfamiliar with the new line, here is the description from the Target website:

Beautiful Tablescape Hearth And Hand Line at Target

There are so many new products in the collection throughout several categories including Kitchen and Dining, Holiday, Furniture, Party Supplies, Toys, Accessories and Furniture.

Black and white Grain stripe kitchen towel Magnolia Hearth & Hand TargetWith Thanksgiving coming up, I wanted to check out all the kitchen and cooking items first. Although I decorate primarily through vintage and thrifted finds, I like to incorporate a few new (vintage/farmhouse style) accent pieces to my home to keep things fresh and updated. This year I added black decorative accents to my kitchen so I was excited to see all the black in the Hearth And Hand line. I love French touches in my decor, so this French Grain Stripe Kitchen Towel  is perfect for blending a bit of modern farmhouse with French farmhouse. It is actually cream and black which is just what I need for my kitchen. Of course you can never have too many dish towels on hand for all the holiday cooking! I am definitely going to be purchasing at least one of these at only $3.99!Gorgeous French Grainstripe black and ivory dishtowels Hearth and Hand Target

Okay, so maybe I will have to buy two of them! Loving the green/ ivory striped kitchen towel too.

Green is actually my favorite color, and plaid is my favorite textile pattern (next to grain stripe) so I was excited to see all the black and green plaid products in the new Hearth And Hand line! Aren’t these Woven Plaid Placemats so classic and affordable at only $4.99 each? They are definitely holiday must-haves!

The placemats will work for more traditional and vintage cottage decor or of course modern Farmhouse house and Fixer Upper style as seen below.

This Fabric Ribbon Plaid Gross Grain green/black is just amazing too! How beautiful it would be to have a Christmas tree in a dining room decked with this ribbon right next to a farm table with those awesome place mats!

Magnolia Hearth And Hand Green And Black Plaid Ribbon

There are several new throw pillows in the Hearth & Hand line. The Green Plaid Throw Pillow is my favorite.

Beautiful Fixer Upper Style Pillows And Garland Magnolia Target

Here are a few more really cute pillows too.  The Merry Christmas Embroidered Throw Pillow is simple and adorable! I also am loving the cottage farmhouse style Lamb Ear and White Berry Garland shown here. The garland is from the Magnolia Forever Green Decor Collection which is really awesome! Whether decking the hall or gracing the table, it adds a touch of farmhouse Christmas greenery as a beautiful alternative to traditional pine.

This pretty Artificial Lamb Ear/White Berry Wreath can easily transition through all the seasons with the addition of some floral accent picks, but I love it especially for Christmas. So simple and elegant!

Many of the elements in the new Hearth and Hand line are so classic!

Gorgeous green and gold Christmas Ornaments By Joanna Gaines at Target

So far I have shared quite a few Hearth & Hand items on the holiday must-haves list. For me, extra ornaments are absolute holiday must-haves! I always use a lot of green bulbs in various shades in my Christmas decor, so I think this Solid/Herringbone Ornament Set in green might end up among the hoards! When it comes to ornaments,  the more, the merrier Christmas… am I right?

I had originally intended to create this post mainly to introduce the new line, but it seems like I am racking up quite a little wish list of my own here! This adorable Mailbox Letters To Santa Ornament reminded me that I better hurry up and send off my Magnolia Hearth And Home wish list because Christmas will be here before we know it!

Just like that it will be time to hang the stockings by the chimney with care! Although I have a more shabby-vintage, traditional, and French/European Christmas decor style, many of these “Fixer Upper Style” products can still work in my home for Christmas. This fun Plaid Pom Holiday Stocking may not be hung by the chimney, but I think it would look super cute in my farmhouse-cottage style kitchen where I use a lot of vintage red and white Christmas decorations.

To close this little round up of my Magnolia “Hearth And Hand Fixer Upper Style Holiday Must-Haves,” I will end with my absolute favorite product in the line, a beautiful Fixer Upper style Wooden Doll House!

A Special Opportunity To Help A Child In Need :

When it comes to Christmas, I am a little girl at heart! I just love this sweet doll house! Do I need it? No! I already have two vintage doll houses! However, some special child would be so happy to wake up to find this amazing dollhouse on Christmas morning! Almost every year I see “dollhouse” on the Giving Tree wanted list. While preparing this post I came up with the idea to take donations via Paypal to raise money to purchase this doll house for one needy child in our local school district!

The cost of the dollhouse is $129.99, and if just a few of my bloggy friends or readers would like to contribute that would be amazing! I am shooting for 10 friends to donate $10.00 and I will take care of the rest! If you are interested in pitching in, just email me or leave a comment below or you can donate today through PayPal at the end of this post.

Once the doll house has been purchased and delivered to the school ( I will personally contribute some new dolls and furniture) each contributor will receive an email notification from the local school district’s family resource center confirming that they have received the dollhouse and that it will be delivered to a child in need. This is just an idea I had while preparing this post, so I decided to follow my heart and go with it!Beautiful Dollhouse by Joanna Gaines for Target Hearth and Home Hearth & Home

Well I hope you have enjoyed this introduction to the new Magnolia Hearth And Hand line at Target! Although I do not consider myself to be a big fan of Fixer Upper style, there are some really nice products in this new line that I would definitely be able to work into my home. I am actually heading back to Target in few days to pick up some of those kitchen towels which will be so handy for preparing and cleaning up Thanksgiving dinner. With that in mind, I am off to Pinterest to get some recipe inspiration!

If you are still looking for Thanksgiving recipes,  you can also check out the Grateful Gatherings Blog Hop in case you missed it. Several recipes were shared on the amazing hop which you can find starting with my Thanksgiving Kitchen Tour, and following the hop links listed at the end of my post which will take you on to the other fabulous posts!
