Spring Gardening Dreams

Hello Spring! Today it was 80 degrees here in Eastern Kentucky and just a brief stroll around the yard had me dreaming spring gardening dreams! I am now ready to start making plans for some changes in the landscape that will take place later this spring and early summer. My thyme, oregano and mint is already growing rapidly and filling the March air with a delightful herbal fragrance. Even some of my succulents have survived one of the mildest winters we have had on record. There are a few daffodils left, and dainty grape hyacinths are popping up beside them too. Everything is greening up and gardening time will be here before we know it! I have some ideas for what I would like to change in the landscape this year but I thought it might be nice to take a look at some older pictures for inspiration.

Okay friends, it’s March! Time to start tackling the spring cleaning full force! To get started, take a look at your house— from your wardrobe to your basement, and ask yourself, “Do I really need all this junk???” And by junk, I am even including all of the extra vintage decorative items and holiday decor that really aren’t life necessities. We fill our homes with so many “things” that we really don’t need, and most of the time the excess items just end up cluttering our minds too. After this last Christmas it seemed to take forever to pack away the decor and I have struggled to organize the basement ever since, so it is time get things under control! I am purging all of the excess this spring! For this great purging, I am focusing on donating to charities. I also want to make sure my donations go to worthy causes so I have been doing some research. Shiplap is definitely one of the hottest trends in home decor these days thanks to the show Fixer Upper and the popularity of farmhouse style. I originally thought the craze would have died off by now, but shiplap is still showing up in all types of homes and it seems to work well with many different decorating styles. I don’t really decorate solely around trends, and it took me a while to warm up to the “shiplap fad” as I called it. I repeatedly tried to convince myself I would not fall for shiplap but there were just too many beautiful rooms popping up in the decor world. I still didn’t want to commit to covering my walls with an expensive wood treatment that I would be sick of in two years once the fad was over. In addition I didn’t really think I had anywhere to use shiplap.
