How to Decorate Your Home Office Based on Your Personality Type

Decorate Your Home Office based on your personality type Meyers Brigg Personality Types

When it comes to decorating your home, you want to put your personality in it, right? Of course you do… it’s your home! People personalize their homes with different touches that are a direct reflection of who they are and what they like. For example, if you’re someone who loves to travel the world, it wouldn’t be uncommon to see globes and maps around your home. These personalized decor items can go anywhere in any room, but the one room that might pose some difficulties trying to personalize is the home office.

If you’ve ever worked in an office and been around coworkers, you’ve probably heard several people say that they’re a totally different person outside of work. The same goes for home decor. The decor you have in all the other rooms of your home might be based around your favorite design style but in your office where you work and conduct business, those design styles don’t have necessarily have to match. For example you might use bright colors throughout your home, but you might need a more neutral palette in your office in order to focus and be productive.  If you have been struggling to decorate your home office, consider your personality type to help you get started.

What’s Your Home Office Personality Type?

An interesting way to design and decorate your home office is to base it on your personality type.  One popular way to determine your personality is the Myers-Briggs personality type test. Taking the Meyers-Briggs personality type test is simply a fun way to gain some insight about yourself that can help you make better decisions on how to decorate your office and what to put in it to increase productivity. Take a look at these personality types:

Personality Type: ISTP “The Best of Both Worlds”

Introvert. Sensing. Thinking. Perceiving.

If you are this personality type, you might decorate your home office in a way that gives you the perfect balance of order and organization mixed with a bit of your own personal quirkiness. Although you might like the dark woods and neutral tones in other parts of your home, you might need bolder colors in your home office to help stimulate thought and creativity.

For your home office, you would want to incorporate unique colors to awaken your creative juices. Colors like mint green or peach are ideal colors the ISTP’s office. For this personality type, chic home office styles  are best for the work space. So things like a glass top desk, a periwinkle velvet chair, and even a chandelier would be an ideal  office setting.

If you are an ESTP then you might take risks. You can be very innovative when it comes to work and you are probably an entrepreneur and problem solver. Clocking in and going to a 9 to 5 job might not be ideal for you, so instead, create an office space at home to start your own business!  Simply jump right in, search for brandable domains, and start building up your website!

As mentioned earlier, people with this personality type are innovators who think “outside the box,” so a unique office furniture, bright colors, bold accents, and funky pieces of artwork will really help these individuals thrive.

If this is your personality type, you will prefer your home office to be clean and have an impeccable organization system in place. “Everything has a place” is your decor motto. There is absolutely no room for clutter in the ISTJ’s office so it will be common to see plenty of storage like filing cabinets, wall shelving, and bookcases. The design style for this office is very traditional with sturdy and reliable wood furniture pieces. The color scheme will consist mostly of earth tones, so browns, deep reds, and dark greens will be conducive to productivity.

Personality Type: INFP “The Visionary”

Introvert. Intuitive. Feeling. Perceiving.

If you are an INFP, you might be considered a visionary or idealist, and therefore you will crave harmony in your home office. The location of your office will ideally be somewhere far away from the high traffic areas like the kitchen or living room since you need peace and quiet in order to thrive. You might enjoy white or neutral colors or water colored hues that will help you view the office as a calming retreat even when work is involved.

In addition to water related colors you might also enjoy elements of nature too, so incorporate plants and as much natural light as possible. Inspirational quotes or signs with sayings such as “life is too short to be anything but happy” or “… but first coffee” can give your office an upbeat vibe. If you are an INFP “free spirit” you may still have a business mindset and want to get important work done. Therefore, create an environment that helps you relax and unwind while promoting focus on work.
