Celebrating Kentucky Derby Day With Equestrian Style Decor Inspiration

Happy Kentucky Derby Day! As a lifelong Kentucky resident I love the history and culture of our great state. The historic Kentucky Derby and beautiful horse country is perhaps what Kentucky is best known for.

I have not attended a Kentucky Derby, but I hope to in the future! People around the world celebrate the day with derby day parties, dressed in their finest attire and sporting festive hats to mark the occasion.

I have always loved horses, English country and equestrian style decor, so today I thought it would be fun to take a look at some beautiful Kentucky Derby themed and equestrian style decor inspiration. *This post contains affiliate links.

Winner's Circle Display: I love nothing more than creating spaces for equestrian inspired decor. This one is so simple that anyone can do it! Make it your own and have fun with it. Here are some tips on what to do...

Winner’s Circle Decor

In my recent Cottage Bedroom Reveal as part of the Beautiful Bedrooms Tour, I shared how I incorporated a touch of equestrian style in the room.

I recently purchased a beautiful horse pillow at Vintage Market Days in West Columbus, Ohio which I have used on the wing back recliner by the bookcase in our bedroom. I also styled the top shelf of the bookcase with a Kentucky Derby themed vignette.

Last fall I scored this collectible picture of historic Triple Crown winner, Secretariat the race horse at a local yard sale.

I didn’t really have a place for the picture downstairs, but when I gave our bedroom a makeover I finally found the perfect spot to display it on the bookcase. I have a small collection of vintage trophies that I also included in the vignette along with my dad’s childhood copper horse bank (which later became my Barbie horse)!  A couple of small plates with horses and an English hunting scene are also favorite yard sale treasures.

Some of my love for this particular style has been influenced by my aunt Jennifer Lyon, an accomplished equestrian, artist and decorator. Here is one of her stunning custom horse portraits.

I love all of this! So distinctly Kentucky. I’ve been in my new Kentucky home one year and I’m still working on the decorating. This gives me some inspiration… 🙂

I admire equestrian decor, so this was fun for me. I’ve only visited Lexington, Kentucky, but it charmed me so that I’ll never forget the beauty of the horse farms.

Hello Sarah! Yes, Lexington is amazing. We live about 2 1/2 hours away but I have had to travel there every couple of months for doctor appointments over the past several years, and I feel very connected to the area. I hope you will get a chance to visit Lexington again sometime, and you are welcome to visit my blog anytime! Thanks for stopping by!
