Welcome friends! This week I am sprucing up the front porch and making a few changes from the porch decor I have been using the past couple of years before I get started on adding all the pumpkins and mums for fall. I really want to give the porch a refresh with a few farmhouse touches. Although we live in traditional 1921 yellow brick two story home, there are many vintage farmhouse style design elements that will work very well with the style of our home. I have been looking at farmhouse porches, entryways and foyers on Pinterest and I found so many pretty examples I decided to share a few of them here today. *This post contains affiliate links.
The Allure Of A Welcoming Porch
We all want to make our homes seem welcoming, so the porch is a great place to start when it comes to decorating. There is just something so alluring about a big farmhouse porch for relaxing in the summer or adorning with pumpkins in the fall! Most traditional farmhouses had some type of large porch for cooling off on hot summer days.
I have noticed that one of the easiest ways to create farmhouse style whether inside or out is to use traditional or modern farmhouse light fixtures. I love the look of Gooseneck Outdoor Lights on a porch, but gooseneck style lights are also popular choices for interior farmhouse style rooms.
Adding a large exterior rug to the porch and some furniture with comfy all-weather cushions and pillows or even a quintessential farmhouse porch swing will immediately make a porch feel more welcoming.

Obviously, flowers and plants are always a good idea too!
Welcoming Entryways and Foyers
Our home doesn’t have an actual foyer, but there is some space to play around with creating the look of a more distinctive entry way with creative furniture placement and decorative accessories. Even a simple bench right inside the front door can add a welcoming touch.
I love tile entryways, but we have original hardwood floors in our living room so I have found some beautiful examples here for inspiration.
There are so many advantages of wooden flooring, and I can honestly say it is super easy to clean and I just love seeing the beauty of our 97 year old hardwood floors (scratches and all) as soon as we walk through the front door. Of course newer wood floors are very durable and scratch resistant, making them perfect choices for welcoming farmhouse foyers.
Even if you don’t have a foyer, simply using a beautiful rug, door mat, or runner in the entryway can help to keep the rest of the floor clean while defining the space and making a decorative impact. I am a big fan of jute rugs.
You can also use farmhouse stencils or floor stencils to create the look of a tile or rug on the porch or entry area.
Of course the obvious way to create a welcoming farmhouse porch, entry way or foyer is simply to use a cute welcome (or “hello”) door mat!

Hopefully I will have the porch all decked out for fall in time for the Embracing Fall Home Tours on Oct. 8th. I would love for you to come back soon to see the porch changes and to share more porch and entry way ideas!
