Hello everyone! Today I am participating with some blogging friends for the Thrifty Chicks August “birds” challenge. Although I didn’t create a brand new bird craft, I have been feathering my nest and refreshing the decor and garden for late summer. My little birds have been flying around finding new places to nest in preparation for fall too. For this challenge I am sharing some of my vintage bird vignettes.
We are at the height of summer here in Kentucky. It is extremely hot and way too early to decorate with pumpkins, but sunflowers are in full bloom! I recently made some mantel changes to reflect the end of summer and the first signs of fall. I simply switched out a beachy air plant and some seashells for this little brown bird and placed a pretty sunflower in one of the bottles.
The Vintage Summer Vignettes continue in the dining room with a “birds and bottles” theme.
Back in the spring my little birds started appearing here and there around the house just in time for my Early Spring Home Tour. I always keep my birds from spring through late summer, but this year I have some ideas for using them in fall vignettes too.
I also enjoy decorating with mossy nests in creative ways.
Here I have nestled a mossy nest of eggs down in part of a salvaged gas light fixture. A beautiful bird brooch adds an unexpected touch of vintage goodness.
I used my favorite bird treasures to create a nature inspired dough bowl display.
This little bird saucer is one of my favorite $1 yard sale treasures.
A recent thrifted bird has flown into the music room to becoming part of a summer-to-fall transitional vignette. The pretty shabby chic tray with a Frenchy roses and bird motif is also a junkin’ find from earlier this summer.
A pair of pretty metal bird ornaments hang from a metal picture frame holder on the piano,
This lovely bird pillow will be on display from late summer through fall.
Outside, a pair of cast iron “blue birds” can be seen in various garden vignettes year round.
For my Vintage Summer Garden Tour I displayed the birds on a thrifted baker’s rack beside our back door.
Another little bird is perched on the top shelf of the baker’s rack as a reminder of healing garden therapy.
Other birds appear in whimsical garden vignettes in the flower beds. Don’t worry, these two are feathered and furry friends!
So, I actually did have a very easy and cute bird project in mind for this challenge that I planned to whip up at the last minute. These little birds and sunflowers from Family Dollar’s summer clearance sale inspired the idea. I did wait until the day before the challenge, but it would have only taken a few minutes so I wasn’t worried about it. I came straight home from the store excited to get to work, but out of nowhere the sky turned dark, followed by thunder, and then torrential rain that lasted all evening! It was so dark there was no way to get pictures even inside the house. Nevertheless, the birds and sunflowers are cute as is in this impromptu vignette for now, and the makeover will be even more fitting for later this fall. I will certainly share a post when the project is complete.
