Halloween Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to my home! I am so very excited and honored to be  introducing the “Welch House” and sharing my Halloween Home Tour here today on Amber’s amazing blog! Thank you so much Amber for this opportunity! Let’s get started!

I’ve always had a fondness for Halloween, but I must say it has definitely grown since my  Husband and I purchased our 120 year old home, The “Welch House” almost four years ago. Our home was built in 1900 and is very popular in our small town. The locals refer to it as the “Welch House” named after the prominent family that built the home. My husband and I are the third family to own the home. I have been asked many times by locals if there is a ballroom on the third floor. Many of them remember stories being told of dances taking place in our third floor during the First World War era. I do not know if that is true or not, but our attic is very large and could accommodate many people. I have also been told that long ago our home was featured in a book, which I am trying to track down. Many years ago Welch House was named one of the “Most Stately” Homes in our town and was given a plaque to commemorate this achievement. Sadly, while the other nominated homes still have their plaques displayed proudly in their foyers, ours was missing when we purchased the home. I hope to find it someday!

Welch House is truly my dream home, and my greatest wish is to make her beautiful again!  The home creates a beautiful backdrop for holiday decor…especially Halloween decor. With its creaky floors, the beveled glass windows, and even the chandeliers, it all adds to an elegant but spooky atmosphere. I Love French and European decor so I try to incorporate those aspects into my Halloween decor as well.

Historic Halloween Tour Creepy Butler

When you first enter our home our butler, “Fred”, will be there to greet you. He is a favorite when guests visit.

The French buffet in the foyer is decorated with candelabras, pumpkins, leaves and branches from my yard.

Did I mention that I like to be thrifty too? The large bust gets an instant makeover with a black mask that immediately adds a bit of mystery to the vignette. I love decorating with busts and you will see a few more later on in the tour.

Elegant Halloween Decor

Our library got a spooky makeover with golden skulls here and there. I think they look adorable all decked out in their vintage hats!

Spooky Halloween Mirror Ideas

Be careful of the mirrors in this room— You never know what reflection might see staring back at you!

The newest addition to our family, a black kitten named “Maleficent’ is the perfect Halloween prop. She was very cooperative while I snapped this photo of her in the gold French chair, along with a witch’s broom and hat.

Decorating with Spider webs and creepy antique photos

The living room mantle features a different bust that received a fun Halloween makeover, complete with a Marie Antionette wig! I stuck crows in her hair for a spooky effect, and I loved how it turned out.

Gorgeous Halloween Mantel With Candleabras

Candelabras are a must for a creepy, yet, elegant Halloween look on the mantle.

I put my witch costume from last year to good use this year by turning it into a decoration! My dress form looks so creepy decked out as a witch next to the Italian armoire in the living room. I love the green witch hands peeking out of the sleeves.

On the other side of the antique armoire, yet another bust has transformed for the season, this time into a witch!

Hauntingly Beautiful Halloween Decorating Ideas

The living room piano is draped with spider webs. The vintage frames hold some very spooky images.

In the dining room, the table is set with my Grandmother’s crystal and her china plates that feature a black rose…It’s Halloween perfection! I added simple white roses, pumpkins, and of course, candlelight.

Gorgeous Halloween Dining Table

I used a white lace curtain as my table runner this year. I think it looks beautiful flowing down off of the table.

Mantel Halloween Decor Crows and Creepy Cloth

The mantle received a quick makeover with creepy cloth and black crows.

Stunning Victorian Dining Room Decorated For Halloween

I decorated the buffet with branches from my yard that I painted gold and put in my vintage Florentine waste baskets. I filled the branches with black crows and Spanish moss. I then put black masks on each of my lady statues, and filled the buffet with dried leaves and pumpkins.

The dining room piano was the perfect spot for my owl statue. I couldn’t resist putting a crown on his head!

Decorating With Vintage Owls For Halloween

I added spider webs to my vintage French boy lamp and also to the crystal wine server and glasses. The mini chalkboard gives it just the right touch.
