Fall is just getting underway and I am easing into the season. Today I am sharing a look at how I am embracing the beauty of early fall with some simple and elegant fall decorating ideas.
It’s been so hot this summer that my fall flowers this year just aren’t looking “bloggable,” but here are some photos of similar flowers and fall porch styling from last year that I didn’t get to share on last year’s tour.
I loved how easy it was to decorate my faux boxwood topiaries with bittersweet last year so I have decided to do the same year after year. I am also still loving my bright fall plaid bow on my simply greenery wreath from last year, so I am resuing it. After years of stressing out over home tours and spending money uneccessarily I have decided I’m over it…especially if I really like something I have used before.
I am inviting you in the front door into the foyer, although these pictures are also from last year. I am still decorating the foyer which I will be sharing on my October home tour.
I really loved my velvet pumpkin mantel display last year, but this year I am using the pumpkins throughout the house and I am working on something different for the foyer mantel. Let’s head into the living room to see how I am using a few of the velvet pumpkins there.

Simple and Elegant Fall Living Room Decor
I decorate with a lot of blue, terra cotta/rusty orange, green and golds year round, so it was really easy to transition to fall in the living room. I am still loving my older rusty floral Pottery Barn pillow covers and decided to keep using them in this home year round (except Christmas.) They look especially beautiful in the fall, along with the rust velvet drapes.

I also enjoy reusing this favorite water color pumpkin pillow every fall.
It was easy to change my summer coffee table by switching out sea oats for greenery and dahlias, blue transferware saucers for orange transferware saucers, seashells for velvet pumpkins and books with summer colors for books with orange spines.
My love of the color green, gardening and cottage garden style is evident in my fall styling too.
My husband recently finished covering the old crumbling brick hearth with beautiful wood work and trim in time for this tour. The refreshed hearth is a perfect fall perch for my vintage pheasant door stop.
In keeping with my new decorating motto of “DOING less is more,” I am no longer changing out every single item on my mantel seasonally. Instead, I keeping my chinoiserie pottery and candles on the mantel year round and just adding a few seasonal elements to change things up.
This has been the easiest (and cheapest!) fall decorating to date by just switching every day decorative items around and adding the velvet pumkpins, bittersweet, and a few other fall colored accents here and there.
I love this view with so many of my favorite things!
I always have to include some little “ode” to being a music teacher on every home tour!
I made this dried roses, lavender and wheat bouquet for my first fall home tour with Marty back in 2017. I refreshed it this year with some additional lavender and switched out a thin buff satin ribbon for a wider orange satin ribbon.
Changing out books to coordinate with colors of the season is one of top home decor “style tips” for easy and stress free decorating.
City Farmhouse Style Book
I created a quick and easy fall vignette with a trio of vintage fall colored books and vintage brass owls on the small round table between our two swivel chairs.

I did purchase two new lumbar pillows with a gorgeous William Morris-Inspired embroidered motif. I am using one here on the love seat in the living room and the other on the sofa in the new sun room, which I will “reveal” on my October fall home tour!
Here’s another view from the living room looking into the kitchen. I LOVE the light in this house!
Simple Early Fall Kitchen
Our kitchen is ALMOST finished, but we still need to add crown molding, decide on a backsplash, and finish up the paneled refrigerator doors. With this upcoming work in mind, I didn’t want to do a lot of excessive early fall decorating.
Nevertheless it didn’t need much for fall, as it’s a room that already seems made for the season with the faux copper range hood, antique gold accents throughout and an abundance of autumn sunlight pouring through the windows.
Notice the large vintage copper kettle on the stove? It was a thrifted find from this past winter that I couldn’t wait to display this fall. Normally I keep it in the top right cabinet built in as you can see by the empty space that I forgot to restyle with something else for this tour. Oh well, keepin’ it real! You can also see where the crown molding still needs to be added around the top of the cabinets.
An thrifted pastoral sheep painting in autumnal colors adds visual interest to the backsplash while waiting on to make up my mind on a backsplash. I really do kind of like having a painting in this spot, other than the hassle of taking it down to cook.
As you can see, I have styled the island simply for fall, with simply beautiful things!!!
I don’t buy truck loads of pumpkins any more, but I have to buy at least one of my favorite French musque de provence pumpkins to enjoy every fall.
I did pick up a few fun gourds recently at the farmers market and some gorgeous large apples that I planed to share as part of this post but we couldn’t resist them! It’s just not fall without apples, so I bought some honeycrisps from the store for my new thrifted glass pedestal dish. I really hadn’t gotten around to styling my basket tray in time for today’s tour either, so I just threw all the gourds in the basket at the last minute and it works for now!
Of course I must have bittersweet, a willy-nilly bouquet of flowers cut from my own garden, cozy candlelight and vintage transferware too!
Early Fall in the Dining Room
Here’s a peek looking into the dining room from the kitchen with an early fall tablescape in progress.
If you have been a follower of mine or have toured my previous home, then you know that I absolutely love creating elegant autumn tablescapes with an abundance of fall harvest fruits, flowers and fall dishes, but I usually wait until mid-October to go all out with my fall decorating.
I like to go with something simpler in September, so I don’t get tired of looking at all the fall color and extravagance before Thanksgiving. We also use our dining room table every day, so it’s much easier if I don’t have a whole tablescape set up.
I have eased into early fall in the dining room by keeping all the elements of my summer tablescape, with the exception of the yellow napkins and faux lemon accents. I made the simple change of adding faux green-gold apples at each place setting and freshly cut bittersweet vine to my dough bowl centerpiece.
The color of unripened yellowish bittersweet berries ties in beautifully with the apples and other golden-yellow hues around our fall home. I am ordering some some terra cotta napkins to add to each place setting and I will probably switch out the apples for some mini-pumpkins when October arrives.
I think these napkins will look so pretty with the blue transferware! I will share my mid-fall Tablescape with the napkins as part of my October home tour.
Speaking of October home tour, here’s a sneak peak of one of the styled shelves in the sun room. We just need to get the floor installed and then the room will be ready for a reveal! Please do plan to stop back by to check it out, and don’t forget to subscribe by email if you haven’t already so you won’t miss a post. I love making new friends!
I hope you enjoyed seeing my simple and elegant fall decor! Now it’s time to continue being inspired by heading over to My Family Thyme. Don’t forget to check out all of the other fabulous tours below.

September 19, 2024 at 12:04 pmAmber, your home looks exquisite for fall. So many fabulous details but that copper pot with the painting in the kitchen is perfection. Truly lovely, and can’t wait to see more in October. XO- MaryJo
September 19, 2024 at 2:39 pmYour home is stunning. So much to look at. I would never have guessed it is a new home, It looks like you have lived there with lots of memories for ever. I especially love how you showcase all of your musical instruments. I have always dreamed of having a window in my kitchen over a counter (no sink) and show casing a topiary. Such a small detail…but so noticeable to me. Beautiful 😍
September 19, 2024 at 3:03 pmThank you! It is new to us, but almost a century old. I have been a collector of cherished treasures for years, so it didn’t take long to make this house our home. The kitchen used to be the main dining room and we got the idea to put the range between the two windows and transform the space. We really love how it turned out.
Thanks so much for visiting. Happy fall!

September 21, 2024 at 8:09 amGirlfriend! Your tour may be the cheapest and easiest but you’ve shown us how no matter where your pieces end up they look magnificent. It must be your talent for decorating. Or that everything you choose is lovely and has a story. You always inspire me to think more about the details. And I love the twinkle lights but never remember to use them. Dang it! I need to find a place. Maybe the hutch? IDK but I need some! Love your tour!
