A Pretty Spring-to-Summer Tablescape Featuring Vintage Mt. Clemons Mildred China

Hello everyone! I am so excited to join my friend Chloe of Celebrate and Decorate and a great group of blogging friends this week for the “Welcome Summer Tablescapes Blog Hop.” If you are coming over from Zucchini Sisters or if you are just visiting today, I am so happy to have you here!

This tablescape hop gave me another chance to play around with my vintage Mt. Clemons “Mildred” china that I shared last week in my post, “Une Petite French Tea Party (Pour Moi!) (A little French Tea Party For Me!) I scored over 30 pieces of this beautiful ca. 1930’s china back in late March at a church rummage sale for only $5.00! As soon as I saw the dishes I immediately knew that they would be perfect for my May tablescape. The beautiful colors and pattern just remind me so much of the flowers of mid- spring through early summer.

For the tea party I styled up the vintage green cabinet and faux fireplace mantel in the dining room with the pretty Mildred dishes and some of my favorite French vintage treasures. Along with the dishes I have also moved this pair of thrifted vintage (occupied Japan) French figurines over from the cabinet to the table for my spring-to-summer tablescape. I call them Monsieur and Mademoiselle Bleu. They are still gossiping that it is “eem-poss-ee-bille!” that I only spent $5.oo on the dishes (and only $7.00 total on them!)

To lighten things up for late spring and early summer, I switched out my long wooden dough bowl that I normally keep on our 100+ year-old farm table for a rustic-weathered basket tray as the centerpiece. I had intended to use real flowers but I couldn’t find any real roses or mixed bouquets that really matched the dishes. Instead I used the shabby urn full of faux ivory roses that I usually keep on top of my piano and added in some faux pink cherry blossoms and yellow wild flowers from Dollar Tree.  Simple, inexpensive and pretty!

I didn’t find any faux blue flowers that I liked either, but Monsieur and Mademoiselle Bleu add just enough blue to the centerpiece to coordinate with the little blue flowers in the china .

The rest of the basket tray is filled with the extra dishes that I didn’t use out on the table.

I just adore these beautiful dishes! I think they could look very formal in a complete table setting with glassware, elegant gold flatware, and satin pink, ivory or gold placemats. When I spotted some pretty pink gingham placemats for only $1.65 each at a local wholesale floral and home decor shop, I decided to just go with a more simple, cottage style tablescape. For extra vintage, cottage style I layered the placemats using the crocheted placemats from Hobby Lobby that I shared in my “Consider The Lilies Sacred Easter Tablescape.

I love green and I almost always use green in my tablescapes. If things are looking a little “blah” when I am designing a table setting, I have found that elegant moss spheres are always a good idea! I am also loving the combo of green and white striped napkins paired with the pink gingham placemats. The green stripe in the napkins really makes the green in the dishes pop.

Only one of my pretty roses lasted from last week’s French tea party. I went back to every grocery store in town hoping to find more, to no avail. In the end I think I might like the faux flowers I used as the centerpiece even more. I also created little succulent bouquets in the creamer and sugar bowl on opposite ends of the table.

Here are the fresh roses and faux succulent bouquets from my little French tea party last week. While live or faux succulents are very popular in modern Boho Chic or farmhouse decor, I think they can also look very vintage and French when placed in urns or pretty dishes. I love the combination of roses, moss, and succulents.

If you would like to see more of the Mildred china and if you love vintage finds and French country style, I think you will really enjoy my little French tea party post from last week’s Spring Tea party blog hop.

I love decorating with birds and bird vignettes all through spring and summer. This pretty bird is nesting on an orphaned Mildred tureen that I found at a thrift shop just a few days after scoring the set. While I have tons of mismatched vintage dishes (especially ironstone and transferware platters) this is the first matching set I have come across and I plan to use it for years to come. There are a few more pieces I would like to add to my collection, and I am looking forward to the hunt!

I noticed that the Pottery Barn pillows that I have been using all spring in the living room match beautifully with the dishes, so I moved them to the church pew behind the farm table. Isn’t it amazing how things just seem to come together when you “shop” your own house?

While it may look like I spent tons of time designing this tablescape, it really came together very fast. It was so inexpensive since I used mostly thrifted items I already had, Dollar Tree finds, and my lucky $5.oo vintage Mildred china  jackpot!

Have you been eyeing those pink macarons all throughout the post? Unfortunately I can’t eat them due to food allergies but they are still pretty eye candy to me! Instead, an all-natural lemon sorbet served in a teacup is a perfect treat to get me in the mood for summer while checking out all of the beautiful tablescapes that have been shared so far this week on the Summer Tablescapes Blog Hop. You can join me by visiting all of the links at the end of this post.  The hop continues today with Panoply so be sure to stop by Rita’s blog to check out her lovely summer table!

What a beautiful set of dishes Amber. . . I’m as shocked as Monsieur and Mademoiselle Bleu at your amazing find and score. 😉 Such sweet little succulent bouquets in your creamer and sugar bowls. Your styling of your vintage décor in your beautiful home is always impeccable! As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and blog hop with you. ♥

Hi Amber! What a great looking set of china for just $5. Oh my, as I sit here contemplating what I’ve just accomplished in my moving purge, I know that at least 7 people enjoyed the same thrill you did with sets of china I let go and saw in a local estate host’s clearance sale at one of our churches here in the valley! It’s knowing that another has taken them to love that left me with no regrets.
Your couple and their whispered gossip cracked me up. They are fittingly presiding over the dishes, macarons and beautiful flowers on the table. Love that you kept the napkins simply countrified, adding to the overall charm of the pastoral setting. I have a few figural beaded purses that would be right at home at that table!
Happy to be back on this hop and joining you ladies today. It’s been a long journey for me these past 6 mos.! I’ve missed blogging.

Amber, my grandmother had these dishes so they are nostalgic for me. The price is incredible for so many pieces! Your centerpiece and urns with moss are so attractive. Monsieur and Mademoiselle Bleu are the perfect accents.
This has been a fun week viewing all the summertime tablescapes. Blog hopping is fun.

30 pieces for $5.00 is the steal of the century!!! I have a gravy boat with the exact pattern but there aren’t any markings on it. Lovely table and each piece is in harmony with the others. It’s always fun t blog hop with you and thanks to Chloe for bringing us together again.

So very charming Amber! I enjoyed a second view of the lovely thrifted china in your tablescape post. My three tea party tables for the Unbirthday Party also included two boxes of china for $5 and $8 found at a Goodwill store. One included even included a teapot and creamer. I found that boxes of vintage dishes are priced much more reasonably than by the piece. Everytime I stop by, I go straight to see if there are any boxes.

Amber, your scored really big with your dishware. I love its sweet floral pattern and it is so feminine. Your little couple are the perfect addition to your table. I do love adding moss balls for their texture and their bright green color. You do vintage so well, I am amazed at what you find! It has been a fun week blog hopping.

Once again I am amazed at the bargain you got on that lovely china! Now, your figurines crack me up, to me they both look surprised. Perhaps they are surprised you are moving them around again! That vase you chose to use for your centerpiece is beautiful, and I love the bird nested in the tureen, although the nesting of all of the bowls beneath it really adds to the beauty of your table! Thanks for joining us once again!

Love your tablescape Amber. Love the china, the steal you got, the way you laid it all out and even the layered placemats! I want to sit there and chat. Or I could just come sit there and listen to you play the piano if you’d like?! 😉

    Amber,
Your summery table is beautiful. Of course, I love all the French details. Topiaries are some of my favorite indoor plants and yours are adorable in the cups and small white urns.

What a great find that China was and it’s SO versatile! I love how you’ve used it in this setting – I would call it a Victorian country cottage feel. I can see Madame and Monsieur Bleu picnicking at their home in the country looking oh so surprised at the beauty of the season and the lovely table set before them! I love the gingham placemats, particularly layered with the crocheted placemats. You are so good at the little details that make all of your tables so special – the succulent and rose teacups, displaying the extra un-used dishes as accents, the bird nesting amongst the greenery. Really beautiful (and inspiring) job. So fun hopping with you again – Enjoy this lovely start to summer!

As always, I loved your tablescapes and vignettes! I, too, collect small colonial looking figurines; left unsupervised they have multiplied to fill several shelves! Your color matching and variety of textures is inspiring!

Amber, that china was the ultimate thrifting score! Church rummage sales are where I’ve found some of my favorite treasures. I love how you used the extra pieces to decorate the mantle and sideboard…and you even had enough to display in a basket as a centerpiece! The pink and green accents in the china really pop with the table linens and flowers. Monsieur and Mademoiselle Bleu are adorable and really look like they’re gossiping! Love this tablescape! Always a pleasure hopping with you. Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!

Found you via Shabby Art Boutique and so glad I did. I am in love with your tablescape and stunned to see you have the same china as I do. I’ve never known any one else that had it. I inherited a few pieces form my grandfather and collected more through the years. Sadly I spent quite a bit more that $5 but still got some really good deals and now have service for 12 plus all the serving pieces. Your tablescape inspires me. ????
