Welcome to our neutral “cozy cottage” living room decorated for spring!
Come on in! The first thing you see when you walk through our front door is our staircase with painted stair runner and gallery wall.
I really love this little gallery wall. I used antique mirrors and vintage picture frames, two of my favorite things to collect! I am always on the lookout for more! When we removed the carpet the stairs were in really bad shape. There wasn’t time to redo the floors since we were moving in right before Christmas, so we decided to paint a grain stripe runner with colors inspired from some of my old vintage suitcases.
Turning to the right as you enter you can see the fireplace and cozy sitting area, as well as the beautiful French doors leading into dining room. The 96 year old doors and fireplace were major selling points for me! The original ceiling was wood but we dressed it up with bigger beams. LOVE IT! All the woodwork really gives the home a lot of character.
I have decorated the living room in cozy cottage style using neutrals. I incorporate shabby-French- brocante-cottage-farmhouse-industrial-chic-flea-market style accessories and collectibles. Basically I use whatever I love!
You can see into the dining room from our living room area. While I love the pretty vintage style wallpaper I am thinking of using something more neutral to brighten it up later this summer.
Here is our quiet and cozy sitting area which my family uses daily. The bookcase belonged to my Great, Great Grandfather, my oldest family heirloom. It is filled with favorite books and trinkets and momentos from family vacations.
My husband and I designed our coffee table using the top from an old pedestal table and the bottom of a different side table. I wanted a Restoration Hardware style so I gave the table a DIY gray wash I made from lots of different leftover paints in my stash. Currently it is all decorated for Easter and spring!
I shared more of coffee table styling along with many other ideas in Easter Decorating With Bunnies and Blooms!
I am always moving things around and trying out different vignettes. Right now I have a spring bird theme on the mantel.
Here is a shot of the view coming down the stairs. I love to sit on the couch in the morning drinking my tea and watching all the deer in the forest across the street through our three big windows.
Sitting on the couch looking behind back toward the door and stairs you can get a view into my music office and lessons studio. I painted the room dark green obviously very influenced by the fact that we moved in right before Christmas. While it looks absolutely amazing with all the Christmas colors, I am not really happy with it year round, so I have decided to carry my neutral scheme into the music room. Hopefully the room will be getting a makeover this summer! You can also see the vintage suitcases which inspired the painted stair runner.
In front of the stairs is an old wooden table. I am always changing it up for the seasons.
I have used some bright and colorful books for spring along with some pretty Easter eggs, vintage postcard and a beautiful peony in a teal bottle for a springy display.
I love having a neutral color scheme! It makes it easy to change the decor seasonally with accessories and holiday items. I especially enjoy using vintage postcards for quick and easy holiday touches. You can see how I have used them in my Easter vignettes here.
Thank you so much for visiting! I really hope you enjoyed this first tour of my living room.
