Hello everyone, back again with a little post exploring vintage decorating style and current home decor trends. A very popular look right now is “Boho-Chic” which can be sometimes referred to as minimalist farmhouse, or Fixer Upper style, although these are broad terms open to interpretation by the designer. This trend might not appeal to all vintage decor and collecting enthusiasts, but for those of us who like to change things up from time to time to keep our vintage style homes looking fresh and interesting, it can be fun to explore these popular style trends. Let’s take a look at the Boho Chic style that is all the rage. *This post contains affiliate links.

Boho Chic and minimalist farmhouse style is all about clearing the clutter, but still incorporates lots of vintage statement pieces (even though the look is sometimes described as modern.) Clearing space in your home by getting rid of junk and clutter is a fantastic way to make your home feel a lot more organized and refined.Essentially, “Boho” is short for Bohemian, which is defined as “free spirted.” Of course “chic” means classy and stylish.
Replacing outdated furnishings with modern furniture options from places like Anima Domus can help to instantly bring some contemporary flair into your home. It’s the kind of change that you might not even really see the full impact of until it happens.
Common accessories and furnishings include poufs and ottomans in Moroccan or vintage 1970’s designs, as well as leather, jute, rattan, or other natural textiles. Clean lines in furniture are often used, but even shabby chic or cottage style pieces can create fun boho vibes.
Using a variety of textiles such as blankets. throws, rugs, pillow and poufs add texture and warmth to minimalist spaces. Incorporating a minimalist art gallery wall is another way to make a style statement without the clutter.
Clean lines in furniture reflecting the mid-century mod era is often used, but even older, Victorian shabby chic or cottage style pieces can be extremely Boho Chic, especially when they are used in new or unexpected ways. Painting antique dressers and cabinets unique colors can also give a free-spirited Boho Chic feel to any room.
Old display cabinets and hutches from the 1960’s-1970’s can often be found at flea markets and second hand shops, but many of the pieces from this time period had locks that can be missing keys or are jammed. If you find a piece you love but the doors or drawers are locked, don’t let that deter you from purchasing if the price is right. Locksmith companies that deal with emergency lock repair will be able to fix and repair the locks, (even if it isn’t an emergency).

Macrame is one of the most popular wall accessories. Macrame plant hangers are also hot in the interior design world. They can work for Boho Chic, minimalist or have now become popular even in farmhouse style decor.
Indoor house plants have made a big come back thanks to HGTV’s Fixer Upper show and Joanna Gaines’ signature style which incorporates a lot of beautiful indoor plants.
Grouping various house plants with a small succulent or group of succulents is an easy way to add Boho style and a pop of life and color to a small table, mantel, or countertop.
After many years of all-white decor, I have begun to appreciate the use of wood mixed with whites to add warmth to a space. My beloved white or neutral walls are perfect for this Boho Chic look and allow the minimal furnishings and artwork such as black and white photography or a fun melted crayon canvas to really stand out. A cozy fireplace or simply using candles can add even more warmth to a white space.
If you have prefer more traditional, country farmhouse or even French country cottage style, adding some simple Boho Chic accessories can really freshen up any space. As with all vintage style decor, art and collectibles, the best place to look for vintage Boho Chic junk is at yard sales, flea markets and thrift shops…or maybe even your own attic.
Boho bedrooms can be very minimalist or combined with a mix with a bit of farmhouse elements. Lots of various textiles like pretty pillows with macrame or lace trims, chunky knit throws, and jute rugs will make a boho style bedroom feel more warm and relaxing. Of course the choosing the best mattress for restorative sleep should always be the number one priority for any bedroom!
At first I was totally against the style trend, but I have to admit the organic, fresh look is growing on me. Blogger Liz Marie Galvin has found a way to blend traditional, cottage farmhouse and modern boho-chic in a way that I really appreciate. I especially love her use of creative lighting. If you want to design a unique farmhouse-glam light fixture, check out Salt Electrical for assistance. For different spaces in your home choose multicolour LEDs, for the range of light they can provide.
I also absolutely love how Joanna Gaines has been able to seamlessly fuse French Country, Modern Farmhouse Style, and Boho-Chic look while retaining a vintage look in the spaces she designs. You can find affordable accent pieces and furnishings at Target in the Hearth and Hand With Magnolia line of products.
I have been intrigued by this trend, and I think the appeal for me is having some new vintage items to search for on my junkin’ adventures. My younger sister is buying her first home and she is totally in love with Boho-Chic, so it will be fun to find some pieces for her to use too.
What do you think friends? Is this a trend you want to fully embrace or reject completely? Perhaps you aren’t going to change your current style, but maybe you have you just started to experiment with adding few vintage or modern style boho accent pieces to freshen up your decor like I have.
Let’s talk decor design! I am looking forward to hearing your feedback about this trend.
Thanks for stopping by today!
