Simple Farmhouse Style Patriotic Door Basket

How to make a simple farmhouse style patriotic door basket for the Fourth of July Patriotic Door Decor Wreaths Door Basket ideas

Happy July everyone! Today I am sharing the simple farmhouse style patriotic door basket I whipped up in no time for our patio door. We and our neighbors both had yard sales on Saturday. I got to shop their sale the day before as they were setting up, and I scored this adorable door basket for only $2.oo!  *This post contains affiliate links.

Any time I go thrifting I am a sucker for door baskets. This one has the perfect rustic French-farmhouse whitewashed look that I love. I think it will look great filled with faux lavender after the Fourth of July. It was previously filled with some fall florals that I removed and will repurpose in fall crafts.

It was rainy on Sunday so I didn’t get to do much work in the garden. Instead I did some organizing in the garage after the sale which led to some crafting. I put together this pretty little farmhouse style patriotic door basket for our patio door using supplies I already had on hand.

I knew right away that I wanted to fill the basket with faux herbs. Even with just the herbs the basket looked just adorable in it’s simplicity, so I will probably use that design for early spring and summer next year. For the Fourth of July I wanted to add some red, white and blue flowers. I started with these yellow and white flowers from my stash.

Then I added some red flowers and some type of blue berry picks.  I used these same flowers last year in an ironstone pitcher for the centerpiece in my Stars and Stripes Forever Patriotic Tablescape.

When I was rummaging through my patriotic craft tote I also found a rusty primitive star spray that matched the colors and patina of the basket perfectly.

I easily removed several of the indiviual stars from the spray and tucked them in here and there with the flowers.

Last year I had used the stars to add extra patriotic flair to a simple arrangment of faux ivy and American flags tucked in an old world style vase. The arrangement was part of a vintage patriotic vignette on top of the vintage chest of drawers in the dining room.

It will be easy to stick the stars back down into the little openings in the spray where I removed them if I want to use it as a spray again.

Finally, I made a bow using some farmhouse style red ticking stripe wire ribbon and a simple scrap of star fabric left over from the rag wreath I made last year.

I attached the bow a little off center because that is where a glue spot was left over from a previous bow. If you look closely you can see that I folded up the ends of the ticking stripe ribbon instead of cutting off the excess so I wouldn’t waste any of it. It isn’t noticeable at all from a distance. I think this bow reallly made the basket and the whole thing turned out really cute!

I found this Stars & Stripes Ribbonon Amazon that has a similar look to the bow I made. I like it a lot and I think I could get a lot of use out of it in various patriotic crafts.

The door basket is perfect on this door for use through the Fourth of July, and I might even use it indoors for Labor Day. This is the last Fourth of July for this single door, deck, and white siding. The whole patio area is set to get a late summer/early fall makeover! We are looking into a new deck which will extend further out over the old concrete, rustic vinyl shakes siding, and French doors in the center opening to the new deck. First things first however…we have to finish up our kitchen renovation. It’s getting closer, so keep stopping back by for updates!

I just love to make simple crafts combining thrifted finds and things I already have. It is so much less stressful than running around trying to purchase new items, and of course a lot more budget friendly too. If you would like to make a similar farmhouse style patriotic basket you will just need a few supplies:

  • Rustic door basket
  • Floral foam or styrofoam
  • Hot glue gun or safety pipn to attach bow to basket
  • Faux greenery
  • Faux red, white and blue flowers (Altertnatively you could simply use small American flags on dowel rods for patriotic color)
  • Rustic stars, pinwheels, bottle rockets, sparklers or any other fun patriotic accents
  • Red Ticking stripe ribbon, Blue Ticking Stripe Ribbon or Americana fabric scraps

Now that everything is ready for “The Fourth,” I think it’s time to help myself to another slice of watermelon enjoyed on the patio.  If you are looking for some last minute festive tablescape or entertaining ideas for the Fourth of July, be sure to check out my Farmhouse Patriotic Patio Tablescape too.

I hope you have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July! Thanks for visiting!
