It’s hard to believe how fast the Christmas season flew by! As I begin packing away the Christmas decor, I am already planning how to transition the decor for the long winter ahead. Taking down the lights always can be a bit depressing, but keeping things white, bright, cozy and calm can create a peaceful and welcoming home ambiance. Here are just a few simple after Christmas decorating ideas.

While you are enjoying the last few days of Christmas decor, look around and see what you can still use during the winter months. Skis, sleds, and snowy themed decor will still work perfectly after Christmas. Natural elements such as pine cones, antlers, greenery or birch logs also make beautiful winter decorative accents, adding lots of interest and texture.

If your house seems boring and drab after the holidays and you have the after Christmas blues, why not paint an old piece of furniture a new color to brighten things up? Blue, green, and white pieces all look beautiful styled with winter decor. Simply wipe down worn out furniture with odorless mineral spirits and paint it with your choice of chalk paint or milk paint.

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean you have to take down all of your wreaths and garlands right away. I will be leaving our gorgeous Balsam Hill Wintry Woods Garland on our banister through January. Removing the bows will make the garland look less festive but the mix of evergreens and pine cones in the garland will still add winter beauty and interest. A gallery wall of mirrors is also a great way to bounce light around the room on those dark and dreary winter days.

You could also create a gallery wall using winter photos. *Style tip: Be sure not to use  too many photos on your gallery wall as they can make the whole room seem cluttered.

I really love winter decor! Our homes don’t have to feel depressing or boring after Christmas. I am looking forward to creating a peaceful and less cluttered look after several months of seasonal decorating from fall through Christmas.
