Welcome back to my Fabulous Fall Decorating series! Today it’s officially the first day of fall, so that means it’s time to go all out on the pumpkin decor! On October 2nd I will be sharing my fall porch as part of the Fall Porch Blog Hop, so once again I have been searching Pinterest for ideas. As I was browsing I kept coming upon so many pretty painted doors with creative pumpkin displays and it put me in the mood to finally paint our back door, just in time for the arrival of pumpkins!

If you’re not up for giving your home a makeover but you still want to make some improvements to the curb appeal, painting the front door is an easy way to make a small change with big impact. What better time that fall to paint the front door (or back door) a fun color and create a festive fall display around it? I love our dark stained wooden front door and I don’t intend to paint it, but I have been looking for a new color for our back door.
This deep maroon or burgundy door would look fabulous with our yellow bricks. It is also my son’s school and district color (and also my husband’s, the assistant principal and golf coach) so it might be fun to paint the back door maroon to show some school spirit. It would also be so beautiful surrounded by mums and in “moody” purple tones and pumpkins in muted greens or pinks.
Painting the door is chance to be a little creative and try out an unexpected color. I love the trending teal painted doors, but the right yellow painted door might look amazing on our yellow brick home. So many choices!
In addition to choosing a door color, there are also so many beautiful color schemes for pumpkin displays. From classic oranges to soft, muted hues, I love them all! It seems that just about any combination of colors of painted doors, colorful pumpkins and mums can be beautiful!
Green is my favorite color, and it also looks fabulous with yellow bricks, while gray is a chic neutral choice which would bring out the gray tones in the mortar. Green painted doors are perfect for cottages, while gray painted doors are great for modern farmhouse style homes.
I just love white and peachy pink pumpkins with gray painted doors.
Blue and yellow is another winning combination! A blue back door might be interesting with our yellow bricks, and using our state color would add a touch of pride to our old Kentucky home!
I really do love blue painted doors, but especially this dark navy blue! So pretty with all white pumpkins and white mums.
A more vivid blue with orange is a trending fall color combination for outdoor fall displays and indoor fall decor as well.
I am totally in love with this door! The perfect combination of green and blue, resulting in a deep teal that looks amazing with gray green and soft yellow pumpkins and gourds.
Bright red painted doors always make my heart skip a beat, and they certainly can make a lasting first impression! Of course they look amazing during the holidays, but also gorgeous in the fall when surrounded by colorful mums and pumpkins.
Last but not least are classic painted doors in either black and white. While the other colors might be more exciting, black or white can still be stunning, especially when surrounded by pumpkins and fall plants in any color combination.

When choosing black or white for a door, classy topiaries in urns are always a good idea. For extra style you can even make them into something more ornate by pruning them into spheres or spirals.
These pretty painted doors and colorful pumpkins have me excited to paint the back door and to get started on decorating my front porch, side entry and back deck for fall.
Currently our back screen door is painted a teal/hunter green which matches our green roof and and complements the yellow bricks nicely. If I we decided to paint the back wooden door however, we will remove the screen door altogether. It is possible that I will stick with the same green color for the door. Our back door is a dull wood which is scratched and worn. Luckily it is in good shape and just needs a coat of paint. (If your are thinking of painting your door and need to replace it or maybe replace some windows in time for fall, Renewal by Andersen of Charlotte can help you with any exterior replacements or upgrades.)
I just love all of these amazing colors of painted doors and pumpkin displays too! It is hard to choose between them. Which is your favorite? I love hearing from you dear readers! Thanks for visiting today!
Happy fall!
