All About Home Link Party #194

Hello and welcome to the 194rh All About Home Link Party! First I would like to apologize for last week…I completley missed the party due to the sudden loss of my grandmother late Sunday night. Everything last week was a blur and I have been overwhelmed by grief, as well as just worn out from hosting family and helping to plan funeral arrangements. My grandmother was a close friend and her loss is huge in my life. I am truly thankful for all of my friends here in blogland and the celebration of special things that are all about home. My grandmother was a homemaker, crafter, gardener and very creative soul to whom I owe many of my talents. She would definitely want me to keep moving forward and find joy in all of the beautiful things in life, home and family.

Debra and I love all things spring and gardening, so we are thrilled to see what you have to share each week. Here’s what we’ve been up to this spring:

Earlier today I shared a post about the new backyard shade garden in progress at our new home. Here is a special story behind it—

On Saturday after all family had gone home I felt so lost and sad. I had to find something creative to do, so I threw myself into working on building a shade garden from scratch at our new home even though I had no physical stamina left! and was existing on adrenaline stores. I headed to the garden center to look for giant hostas but couldn’t find any. As always, my Mammaw came through, and had just what I was looking for. Let me explain. Later that day, my aunt needed me to come and take one last look through Mammaw’s personal belongings indoors and out.

As it turns out, Mammaw was blessing me even after death. She had left behind two giant hostas outside of her window at her residential home, and as soon as I saw them I knew she wanted me to have them!  She had brought them with her from her previous home when she moved eight years ago. They had grown so  huge that it took my husband quite some time to dig them up and  he struggled a bit to get them out, but in the end we were able to successfully transplant them in our new backyard. She never got the chance to visit our new home, but the hostas will always be a reminder of Mammaw’s love of gardening and her green thumb.

In happier news, last Saturday was my son’s senior prom. Didn’t my he look so handsome with his pretty date? And those flowers! (I designed the bouquet with help from a florist.) Love it!

Debra shared a post on how to create a May Day Floral Basket. So sweet!

New Backyard Shade Garden in Progress

Hello my garden-loving friends! Today I am sharing a post about the new backyard shade garden in progress at our new home. It’s origins are bittersweet, but very special nonetheless. Just last week my grandmother passed away, and the only thing I could do to deal with the grief this past weekend was a little garden therapy. I had just started a new shade garden at our new house, and I really wanted some giant hostas to be focal points and to build around.  None of the local garden centers had the kind I wanted however.
