Hello and thanks for joining me on the junkin’ trail! This summer my family vacationed at beautiful Wrightsville Beach, NC and I had the opportunity to shop at Vintage Marketplace antiques shop in gorgeous Wilmington, NC. I was so impressed with the store that before I knew it I was snapping pictures to share with all of my vintage loving friends and followers and taking mental notes for a blog post. There was so much eye candy I knew it would be a real treat for all of you vintage junkers out there!
I first spotted the shop on the way to dinner on our first evening of vacation. It was closed, but I could see lots of rusty garden decor and salvaged pieces outside so I knew I absolutely had to visit at some point on our trip! When my youngest son and husband went on a deep sea fishing tour, it was time for me to hit the Wilmington junkin’ trail. First stop— Vintage Marketplace!
Upon arrival I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough to take a look at the gorgeous, chippy-rusty garden urns and architectural salvage outside the shop! I knew there must be some real treasures waiting inside. As soon as I stepped in I was delightfully overwhelmed by a vintage wonderland. The lighting and displays were absolutely stunning and set the little vintage butterflies in my stomach all a flutter! I was welcomed with smiles by lovely shop owner, Janie Perry, who opened the Vintage Marketplace four years ago. She designs many of the fun lighting displays all around the shop too!
I have been to some nice antiques shops but most of them were poorly lit. Vintage Marketplace is light, bright and airy! Janie explained that the building had previously been a lighting store, so the space lends itself to showcasing beautiful lighting and chandeliers of all kinds.
This area of the shop is so lovely and perfect for bridal showers and tea parties!
Everywhere you turn you will find vintage and antique furniture and collectibles from all eras which are suitable to every vintage decor style. There might be a chippy, old primitive country pie safe or a retro metal kitchen chair right alongside a French Rococo buffet or a shabby chic dresser. Brocante gilded mirrors, trays and frames grace the walls, and table tops are loaded with antique and vintage dishes in many beautiful, collectible patterns.
Modern farmhouse style “vintage” furniture and accessories such as galvanized feeders, distressed wooden trays and rustic lanterns will delight the fixer-upper style enthusiasts too!
Francophiles and Blancophiles (lovers of all things French, and white) as well as the Victorian romantic at heart are sure to find treasures in every corner!
All throughout the store there are creative and eye catching booth displays packed with found and foraged objects to keep the vintage collector delightfully occupied for hours!
Hunk-A-Junque Booth
Gimme all the gorgeous, antique chalk painted frames!!! The shop offers so many treasures…
From chippy architectural salvage…
To vintage books…
To adorable farmhouse country decor, furnishings and collectibles…
There is a special find for every vintage collector!
How about some old salvaged windows in an antique cast iron tub?
Or a cart loaded with chippilicious spindles? Yes please! (I wanted to roll this cart full of vintage goodness all the way from NC to my old Kentucky home!)
This stunning architectural salvaged crown molding remnant draped with lovely vintage French grain sack, linens and lace really made a statement…”BUY ME!”
Or you might prefer a more rustic old cabinet simply chipping with charm! As you can see, if you love junk and all things vintage, this is surely the shop for you. But wait…there’s more!
Jentiques Booth
Cotton stems and galvanized items are all the rage in decor these days! There is plenty of galvanized goodness at Vintage Marketplace!
How adorable is this creative vintage sink display? Love that little sink! Dear Santa…
If you are looking for a special gift for a friend or even to treat yourself, you will find lots of pretty “smalls” around the shop like these beautiful and wonderfully fragrant soaps and hand lotions.
Being a Kentucky girl and collector of vintage soda crates, I was a bit partial to this creative display!
I also adore distressed furniture and tattered old books tied up with crocheted ribbon! So much eye candy!!!
Did I mention eye candy? Every nook, cranny and corner is filled with sweet finds!
Mirrors, and sconces and doilies oh my! So many treasures that you will want to buy!!!!
See anything here that you want? As for me, I would take that, that, those, and yes, that too! And one of those… ok, I’ll take it all!
Antique dog book ends? I’ll make no bones about it…I want ’em!
It has been a month since my visit, and all the treasures I let get away are still weighing on my mind! Can’t wait until next year though!
When it comes to a variety of vintage merchandise, adorable and creative displays, friendly service and reasonable prices, Vintage Marketplace deserves a ribbon or two!
Bring the outdoors in or decorate your garden shed with beautiful shabby chic and French Country Garden inspired finds from Vintage Marketplace!
I loved this unique, mosaic tile toile de jouy chair…so perfect for a covered porch, sun room, or “she shed!” There is simply so much to see and so many beautiful vignettes and displays, you will certainly want to be sure to plan lots of time when you visit!
In addition to antique decor and furnishings, the shop offers gorgeous vintage and boutique style clothing, hats, jewelry and other accessories. How fun to get all dressed up for a tea party at Vintage Marketplace!
Of course an antiques shop in a coastal town just wouldn’t be complete without beach themed and nautical treasures galore!
Yes, happiness is a day at the shore, followed by a day of shopping at Vintage Marketplace!
Look at this shop! Treasures untold! How many wonders can one building hold??? Lookin’ around there you think, “Gee! They have EVERYTHING!”
They’ve got gadgets and gizmos a plenty…they’ve got “who-zits” and “what-it’s” galore! Vintage thingamabobs? They’ve got twenty! Shop a bit…make a deal…then buy MORE!!!!
Vintage Marketplace offers a little something for everyone, including some good advice!
Be a pineapple: Stand tall, wear a crown, & be sweet on the inside
Look closely and you will find the smallest and most darling little treasures! Check every booth for baskets, suitcases and crates filled with antique photos, silverware, vintage hardware and more!
Search table tops but don’t forget to look underneath too! Sighs… that’s me on the sweet embroidered linen, just under the table and dreaming of my next visit to Vintage Marketplace!
I can hear the ocean… and the vintage treasures calling to me!
After reading this post and seeing all of the beautiful vintage loot just waiting to be found, are you ready to grab your besties, your swimsuit, and piggy bank and head straight on to Wilmington for a little sun, surf, and chippy-shabby treasure hunting? There is at least another month of beachy weather to enjoy! Of course Vintage Marketplace is open year round! Christmas in the shop is known to be a magical experience. Perhaps a little winter junkin’ is in order! Whatever time of year you choose to visit, I know Janie and the other vendors will be warm and welcoming. I am honored that Janie allowed me to take the time to photograph and share this post with you today, just in time to celebrate the shop’s third anniversary! I surely hope you enjoyed this shop tour as much as I have!
To find out more you can like and follow Vintage Marketplace on Facebook. There are three different profiles for the shop: Vintage Marketplace (the entire shop), Vintage Marketplace Custom (features custom built pieces) and Vintage Marketplace Tea’s. When you visit each page be sure to comment about how you heard about the shop here at Follow The Yellow Brick Home!
Do you have any other fantastic antiques or vintage stores and markets to recommend? Would you like for your own shop to be featured? I would love to hear all about it!
Until next time on the junkin’ trail…
Amber

I love to wander and gaze at all things vintage, I just wish there were a store in Las Vegas like this. What we have here are mostly vintage clothing boutiques.
September 3, 2017 at 2:37 pmThanks for stopping by Oh My Heartsie Girl!
Hope you enjoy your day, have a great week!
Oh my goodness I would never have imagined in such a “touristy” place there wouldn’t be any good antiques shops. Hmmm, gives me an idea for a new business venture! Next month I will be posting about the huge Vintage Market in Columbus Ohio. The post should be ready toward the middle of October. I think you will really like it too. Thanks for stopping by today!
September 3, 2017 at 5:22 pmWe live in Shallotte, which is about 35 or so south of Wilmington. There is a nice antique mall called Baker Street Curiosity Shop {https://www.facebook.com/BakerStreetCuriosityShop} . It is less boutique-y, but nonetheless a good place to browse. Also, you might want to hit Southport. There are plenty of fun places to stop on Howe {Rt. 211}, the main drag, and there are some antique stores on E. Moore St, which is a block away from the shore. The movie, Safe Haven, was filmed there and in Wilmington. Use Google maps, blow it way up, and follow Howe to see the various stores available. Here in Shallotte, we have several consignment and thrift stores plus Miss Minnies, a smaller antique store with booths that hold various kinds of goodies. Also, we have The Fancy Flea and Fancy Flea II, on Hwy 17, just on the way into/out of town. They are pretty large. Have fun on your next adventure to our neck of the woods! I’m a misplaced Ohio woman trying to find more than a couple of reasons to love where I live.
September 3, 2017 at 3:24 pmFonda thank you so much for this awesome reply! We hit Southport on our trip last month…but we got there about 4:30 and all those wonderful shops were closing up. I am definitely going to visit some of the places you suggested next year!
