This beautiful New Hampshire home is perfectly decorated for the holidays by my former music student and friend, Tim Cline. I am so thrilled to introduce you to Tim and his amazing home. Hi everyone, and welcome to my home! I am so excited to be here sharing my home during my favorite holiday season on Amber’s wonderful blog! Thank you, Amber, for asking me to be here!

Welcome to the Blaisdell House, and to New Hampshire! Known locally not for the family who built it, but for the family who lived here the longest, moving into the house around 1868. Built in 1805, the house is of the Federal Period, and is quite grand to be built in the country during that time. Although the house is attributed to 1805, I have a sneaking suspicion it started out as a one room house from the 18thcentury, before being added on to in its attributed date of 1805.

After visiting Colonial Williamsburg many years ago, 18th and early 19th century architecture have my heart, and luckily for me, there is no shortage of that beautiful architecture in New England. These homes are about as classic as it gets, and because of that, my interiors are intended to be as timeless as possible, a mix of new fabrics and antique furniture. These classic lines and styles also make their way into my Christmas decorating, too. Tartans, wool, reds and greens with some white thrown in all spark that classic Christmas feeling to me.

Like most New England country houses, the main entry is through the side door, so I think that’s a great place to start.

I have adorned the side door with a festive wreath made by Amber and have filled my urns with fresh greenery and berries that have been foraged from the forest surrounding my home.

Through the mudroom, we take a quick peek at the kitchen table, equally as festive as the rest of the house. A theme you’ll see throughout, wool plaid and fresh greens. Living in the country, there’s no shortage of fresh northern hemlock and pine to hearken the feeling of Christmas. It’s always fine to grab a bag and take a walk through the woods, especially when there’s some fresh snow to be found.

From the kitchen, we find ourselves in the front hall. Although much more grandthan the mudroom, the entrance is seldom used, however, it is the only access to the second floor so is the main pass through, and therefore, deserved some special attention.

You never know when someone may catch a chill, especially in the winter wonderland that is New Hampshire, so there are a several wool throws scattered
throughout the house for easy access. Even the hallway deserves some well-placed plaid throws for easy access. The old pine floors, painted with a diamond pattern, have become a bit worn. I’ve thought about redoing it, but each time, I find that I really do enjoy seeing how timehas taken its toll, with some of the raw old growth pine peeking through the painted pattern. Where the floor takes the most wear, you’ll see a couple of Persian rugs, instead.

From the entry, we’ll head into the most used room in the house, the living room. With its exposed hand-hewn beams and large hearth and fireplace, it’s almost irresistible.

There’s nothing quite like a large roaring fireplace, candles burning, and a Christmas movie while the snow is pouring outside. The world feels hushed and perfect, and the lights twinkle a little extra. A couple of spaniels help make that coziness even better. Warm wool and plaid, and ornaments over the years from travel round out the Christmas feeling my heart yearns for every year.

We’ll wrap up the tour in the Library, arguably my most favorite room in the house. It’s large built-ins spanning floor to ceiling, large windows letting in oodles of natural light, dark molding and light furniture make this a wonderful place to work, to read, and to celebrate the holiday.

Wingback chairs with an off white durable canvas fabric, wool plaid throws (Isanyone sensing a theme here?] draped over the backs, and a large, fresh Christmas tree and greens all fit the bill for a cozy Christmas. No real fireplace here, yet, but an electric one helps provide that extra bit of coziness on those cold winter nights.
