Hip! Hop! It’s Easter in the kitchen! Blue skies, warm temperatures, and an explosion of spring color in nature (along with some recently thrifted finds) has inspired me to create some colorful, happy spring vibes in the kitchen which I will be sharing with you today. I am happy to be joining a wonderful group of bloggers for “10 on the 1oth” to share Easter decorating ideas. Thank you to our talented host Barbara at French Ethereal for inviting me to participate! If you are coming over from sweet Laura’s blog, Decor To Adore or if you are just visiting today, I am so glad to welcome you! On Monday I shared how I have decorated our home for Easter with vintage and thrifted finds. I included a few pictures of my kitchen in that post, but today I am also sharing a few more detailed pictures because I am just loving it and I hope you will too!
Early Spring Breakfast Nook
The corner breakfast nook in our kitchen is one of my favorite places to decorate and also one of the spaces in my home that gets the most love from blog readers and social media followers. Here is how it was looking in early March.
The paperwhites and daffodils were just blooming in early March when these photos were taken. I always like to decorate taking cues from nature.
Easter/Spring Breakfast Nook
As we moved into April more pops of bright color started to appear with flowering trees and the first signs of tulips and hyancinths beginning to bloom. The garden centers are starting to get herbs and vegetable plants in stock and it’s so exciting! Likewise, our breakfast nook has been infused with lots of color in anticipation of Easter, colorful spring flowers, and fragrant herbs.
Every spring and summer and on through fall, I decorate with a garden theme, using lots of green. Lately I have been experimenting with more bright colors in decorative accents and I am liking the changes. I also have been having some Easter fun with Rae Dunn pottery in the kitchen.
This year I happened to find the most amazing faux tulips at my local wholesale floral shop and I bought a few stems in several colors. Up until Saturday the pretty tulips had been laying on the counter because I just couldn’t find the right vase or container to put them in.
On Saturday morning I scored the Rae Dunn “hop!” canister at a yard sale! It is perfect vessel for the tulips and it was the inspiration for the styled tobacco basket centerpiece on the table. I gathered up all of my most colorful eggs, herbs, and candies and a few other Rae Dunn pieces to style up the basket.
Last year my husband got me the “hip! hop!” tea pot for Easter and I think it is just the cutest. A few weeks ago he tried to talk me into the canister at Home Goods, but I didn’t want to pay full price, (even though I really loved it.)Well, it was meant to be I guess!
He did end up talking me into the pretty “Gather” Easter mug because he said I would regret it, and he was right. I do love it! It looks perfect in the Easter styled basket vignette. A vintage inspired egg holder is filled with my favorite little chicks, moss, colorful eggs, and tiny succulents. I used a stack of colorful, thrifted Fiestware (scored at another yard sale) to provide some height for the tea pot and to add even more vintage fun and spring color to the basket. Since I already had most everything here, I spent less than $10.00 on the vignette.
When I was looking for jelly beans and a chocolate bunny for the “sweet” glass candy jar, I spotted these “too cute to eat” bunny cookies. They also look as if they were made for my Easter basket vignette.
Dollar Tree has packages of super cute farmhouse spring stickers. I love this “spring is here” sticker.
When my husband read an ad in the paper for a yard sale on Saturday, “Antiques, Housewares, and Rae Dunn” I hopped out of bed faster than I have in months! It was 8:30 and the yard sale started at 8:00!!!! The sale was about 15 minutes from our house. Was there any chance there would be a single piece of Rae Dunn or antiques left? I had my doubts, but I also had my junkin’ luck…so it was worth a shot. I scored the “hop!” container for only $3.00, a “hip hop” trinket tray for $2.oo, and a “TEA” mug for $2.oo! I did just miss a stunning antique armoire, and a few more mugs but I scored a beautiful farmhouse lamp and three Rae Dunn pieces, so it was worth not sleeping in! The adorable primitive bunny on the black shelf in the background is also a recent junkin’ find.
You don’t see a lot of primitives “trending” these days, but I still love them, and I decorate with what I love! I especially love primitive holiday decor. I consider primitives to be part of authentic farmhouse and country cottage style. I think a prim piece or two adds a homespun and whimsical feeling to a space. This garden bunny will stay on the shelf for the rest of spring. He looks as if he might be getting ready to plant some of the seeds from the seed packets.
The vintage garden theme continues on the back corner ledge of the breakfast nook where I filled a rusty teal bucket with faux herbs and veggies. The Rae Dunn sign is a recent Marshalls score. A little mossy bunny is enjoying some pretty eggs and excelsior grass nests in a vintage tea cup.
The faux herbs and lettuce in the bucket were also part of an Easter vignette in the kitchen last year, along with the little mossy bunny on the shelf.
I also used a few of my black and white vintage seed packets to make a garland to hang on the black shelf behind the breakfast nook seating.
I simply attached the seed packets and some faux “drying” herbs to a piece of twine with tiny black clothespins.
I adore the simplicity of the little herb and seed packet garland. It will be on display throughout summer, along with the fresh herbs sign, handmade by my talented friend Laney of Pine. and. Birch on Instagram. I am a crazy herb lady, so the sign is perfect for my kitchen! It will be easy to transition into summer with a garden theme in the kitchen. I definitely want to keep the bright color pops, so perhaps I will incorporate a lemon theme or even try growing a lemon tree or an orange tree in a pot this summer.
I am also daffodil crazy, so it is time to head outside to enjoy them while they last and to check to see how my tulips are coming along. This weekend if the weather is nice I will be working in the garden and taking stock of our yard to see if we need to have a lawn care service come in to repair our grass. I plan to share some beautiful spring blooms here on the blog next week, so if you love tulips and other spring flowers, be sure to stop back by. If you enjoy vintage decor, gardening, thrifted finds, DIY’s, crafts, French Farmhouse/cottage style, and much more, I hope you will consider subscribing by email at the end of the post to receive a weekly newsletter to keep you up to date with all my latest blog posts and news. April 10, 2019 at 7:10 amOh my goodness, Amber! I am always stunned by how you put everything together ~ so beautiful!!! Love all your Rae Dunn treasures. I did find those same Hip Hop pieces early in the year at HomeGoods but I was spending too much that day (it was when we were just signing papers on the house, I think) so I put them back. Love it all!
Thank you for being on 10 on the 10th today,

April 10, 2019 at 10:09 amAmber, I love your Easter decorations. Those tulips are amazing!!! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen faux tulips look so real! I also love your paperwhites. I’ve never tried to grow them…too intimidating, but they are definitely one of my favorites to use in decorating. The pops of color with your eggs look so pretty and what a great find on the Rae Dunn!! So glad to have you join us this month! Hugs!
April 10, 2019 at 10:14 amI am SO in love with your kitchen. Everything just pops against the classic black and white color palette. I just love the sweet chicks and brightly dyed eggs.
April 10, 2019 at 11:40 amYour creativity amazes me Amber. I saw those little sticker/Easter signs and passed them right up because I cannot do what you do. Love your seed wreath, your spring touches everywhere and all the greens. I absolutely cannot get enough greens throughout my house but mine feels like a jungle so I edit and edit again until there’s practically none. Ugh! I think I would have camped out at the estate sale like people used to do for rock concerts for RD. Love that sign too. Happy Easter!
April 10, 2019 at 3:04 pmEverything is like going to a candy store and looking in the window, with a hopeful expression. I love what you do in your house, thanks so much.
