Vintage French Farmhouse Wheat and Pumpkins Fall Tablescape

Vintage French Farmhouse Wheat and Pumpkins Fall Tablescape

Happy fall dear readers! Today I am excited to be joining my talented friend Angelina of Petite Haus and several other talented bloggers for the Fall Entertaining Blog Tours! If you are coming over from sweet Shannon’s beautiful blog, Belle Bleu Interiors or if you just happened to stop by I am so happy to have you here!

This week we are sharing tablescapes! Recently I scored some beautiful vintage wheat dishes while out junkin’, and that very same day Angelina invited me to join this tablescape tour. Even though I have really been enjoying the Harvest Fruits Tablescape I shared earlier this month, I thought it would be fun to come up with a vintage French farmhouse style fall tablescape using my “new” wheat dishes for this tour. *This post contains affiliate links.

If you are new to my blog it will not take you long to realize that I love all things vintage! I have been collecting and selling vintage collectibles and antiques for years, so instead of buying lots of new retail decor for the seasons, I search out my favorite thrift shops or shop my own vintage stash. It is a fun little challenge to see what I can come up with using only thrifted items or things I already have.

Wheat has been a theme in my fall decor this year, so when I found the wheat dishes for a bargain at the thrift store I couldn’t pass them up. As it turns out, with the exception of the pumpkins almost everything in this fall tablescape is thrifted, Dollar Tree, or one of my DIY projects.

I recently shared 40 Beautiful Ways To Decorate With Wheat, and as I was working on the post I was so inspired by all of the different ways to use wheat in tablescapes. I just love the simple and rustic elegance of wheat in fall decor.

When I scored the wheat dishes I also found this beautiful vintage pedestal urn and I couldn’t wait to fill it with creamy white, mini “baby boo” pumpkins and harvest wheat for my centerpiece. I love the vintage French look and the gold in the design.

On October 1st I am opening my antiques booth at Thistle Patch Vintage Garden and Antiques! Once I get my booth styled I will be sharing all about it here on the blog! I had originally intended to put this urn in my booth, but I guess I am not going to be able to part with it just yet. I can’t get enough of all the pretty details and patina.

I stacked two of my favorite vintage ironstone platters under the urn for a little extra height. The platters are so pretty with the gold around the edges.

This year I have been incorporating little touches of gold in my fall decor, so the ivory and gold urn and the wheat dishes with gold trim were timely finds. I decided to glam up my pumpkins a bit by painting the stems gold and I really like them! I also spray painted a few pine cones and acorns gold.

I am planning a neutral “Hauntingly Beautiful” Halloween tablescape using the white pumpkins, so changing my Harvest Fruits Tablescape to the wheat and white pumpkins theme will make an easy transition. Speaking of Hauntingly Beautiful Halloween decor, next Friday Angelina and I will be hosting The Hauntingly Beautiful Decor Halloween Link Party! The party goes live at 7:00 p.m. EST on our blogs, so be sure to join us! If you are also on Instagram you can start sharing your #hauntinglybeautifuldecor with your hosts @followtheyellowbrickhome @petitehaus and @larissa_jenkins.

The dishes pattern is vintage Ballerina Empire Wheat. There are lots of various patterns of vintage wheat dishes, but most of them have a golden yellow wheat design. The Ballerina Empire wheat motif is more of a brownish gold, and the rim around the dishes is gold.

When I am decorating and getting ready for blog tours, I am always tweaking as I go along. After taking most of the photos for this tour and having my post nearly finished, I remembered the jute place mats I picked up at a yard sale a few weeks ago. I thought they would add some extra texture and rustic fall farmhouse charm to the tablescape so I added them in at the last minute.

For my neutral fall tablescape I designed the table decor to tie in with the neutral and gold vignettes that I have used on the vintage mirrored shelf above the faux fireplace in the dining room.

The wheat, vintage brass candlesticks, handmade maple book page leaves and mini-white pumpkins with gold stems perfectly coordinate with the tablescape.

In addition to the white baby boo pumpkins in the centerpiece, I also placed the prettiest faux leather pumpkins and a couple of my DIY Shabby Painted Burlap Pumpkins on each end of the table.

For my French Farmhouse Wheat and Pumpkins Tablescape I arranged loose wheat bouquets in two mini-French looking urns on opposite ends of the table.

A few of my hand made book page maple leaves and gold painted acorns and pine cones are scattered down my DIY painted burlap runner on top of my everyday French linen runner. I love the wood on our 100+ year old  authentic antique farm table, (my best ever $10 yard sale find!) so I never cover it entirely with a tablecloth.

My sons have been teasing me about decorating with wheat everywhere, since none of us can eat it! With three family members with gluten allergies, the only wheat that touches our table is in the decor.

Several vintage brass candlesticks with beeswax and gilded candles add a touch of elegance. It has been dark, dreary and rainy all week, but lighting the candles makes things feel cozy at least, and I am starting to get all the fall feels!

Don’t worry, the candle flame and wheat are actually further apart than they appear here!

I am loving the look of vintage tarnished brass candlesticks with the gold-stemmed pumpkins and the gold details on the vintage wheat dishes.

I really didn’t want to spend any extra money on this tablescape since I will be changing it shortly for Halloween. As usual I shopped my stash to see what I could come up with. I couldn’t find any napkins that really looked right, so I made my own by cutting up some extra brown ticking stripe material I had left over from another project. The “napkins” add another touch of  vintage French farmhouse style to the table.

I tied up my make-do napkins with twine and my favorite crocheted ribbon from Dollar Tree. I placed a single piece of wheat in the center with my “gold flatware.” A few years ago I got rid of a set of gold flatware during a junk purge and I have regretted it ever since! My fancy-schmancy gold plastic party utensils from Home Goods take the place of real flatware until I stumble across some gold again for a bargain.

These plastic gold utensils are actually heavy duty and reusable. I keep them in the corner china cabinet when not in use. Here you can see how my “French Country Farmhouse Wheat and Pumpkins Tablescape” also coordinates with the vintage china cabinet styled with wheat, pumpkins, and other fall touches.

Later in the fall I will be adding more vivid fall color to my decor and styling up a more traditional Thanksgiving tablescape, but for now I am enjoying the simple elegance of neutral and gold.

I just love the neutral palate of your fall tablescape. Your wheat place settings were an amazing find. Lucky You! I, like you have corner cabinets and I fell in love with the way you have staged them with such awesome white ware. I may be using your picture as inspiration. Painting the stems of white pumpkins gold! Genius and I’m stealing that idea for sure ????

    Amber,
Lovely Fall tablescape with the beautiful wheat dishes and real wheat arrangements. Fall is the time for harvesting and brings to mind harvesting wheat.

    Happy Fall,

Oh my goodness Amber, your table is gorgeous. The neutral color palette works perfectly with your theme. Adding a natural element such as wheat for a fall table is nothing short of genius. And what a lucky score those wheat dishes were. The white pumpkins, flatware and the ironstone are great additions to your table. Elegant and organic.

It was fun joining you on this fall tablescape blog hop.

Love the wheat and the white pumpkins. Unfortunately, I’ve learned that my kitties will munch on the wheat and while I love it, I love the kitties more! I’m trying to remember which of my Aunts had the wheat dinnerware. I smiled when I saw it in your post. Your table is perfect for fall.

I love your tablescape. The whet looks new and fresh and not so Orange-pumpkiny. I also love all things vintage, but don’t want to go down the ” I bought all these harvest signs at Michaels” decorating trend. I found this fresh and inspiring. #Pitstop

Loved seeing your wheat dishes. Brought back memories since that pattern was my mom’s favorite. That was the time when china was available at the gas station. Each time she went to the gas station she would fill up and add one more piece to her collection. My mom has passed so it was nice to see her favorite pattern in your blog!

Wow, Gin, such a nice comment. It made my day! I am glad you enjoyed them. I only recently became aware that many of the vintage dishes patterns I love so dearly were gas station dishes. I find that fascinating! Thanks so much for stopping by!
