Five Easy Ways To Add Farmhouse Style To A Kitchen

Hello friends! Do you spend as much time as I do swooning over beautiful farmhouse kitchens online? I have always loved farmhouse style, (I called it “country” before the “fixer upper” and “farmhouse” craze hit!) Since so much of farmhouse style is based on farm life and food,  the kitchen is probably the easiest room in the house to achieve the look.

1. Use Open Shelving

Hang open shelves in the kitchen to display pottery, cooking utensils, vintage kitchen wares or spices. There are many styles of  open shelves  to compliment  various types of farmhouse style kitchens, from modern farmhouse and industrial, to French Country.

2. Display Farmhouse Kitchen Collectibles And Decorative Accents

Fill those open shelves or create counter top vignettes using farmhouse style finds. Display a collection of old breadboards or corral vintage kitchen utensils in small crocks.

Display fresh or faux fruit in a pretty bowl or chicken wire baskets on the counter or island. ( Avoid using a plastic bowl if possible, and remember that  some fruits should be kept in the fridge for freshness).

This set of 2 farmhouse chicken wire trugs are a great way to add extra storage capacity to your kitchen. Featuring a black wooden handle these baskets can be used to store eggs or as a rustic style fruit bowl for added country decoration. The smaller basket fits perfectly inside the larger making this set easy to store when not in use.

3. Install A New Backsplash

Popular choices for a farmhouse kitchen tile backsplash include subway tile, brick tile, and patterned tile.  Of course bead board is classic, and shiplap is still all the rage!

As for a backsplash, wooden plank walls (instead of tile) keep the style of the room seamless and add old-fashioned charm.

4. Use Vintage or Vintage Style Appliances

Nothing takes a farmhouse style kitchen over the top quite like vintage appliances. You can choose vintage replicas or have an authentic vintage appliance repaired through a reputable  appliance repair company.

I love the way you use the glass storage jars on the open shelving. It’s neat and tidy and really adds to the decor. Where did you purchase the glass jars? I’ll figure out where to include one in my kitchen now. Thanks for all these lovely ideas!

This is so beautiful. Unfortunately, I have an apartment and it wouldn’t suit the design but your photos are stunning. Stopping by from #BloggersPitStop and have a great day!
