Hello friends! Today I am super excited to share some fun “DIY Rae Dunn Inspired Dollar Tree Hacks” that I came up with using a vinyl decal with Rae Dunn style font that I found at our local Dollar Tree. I am actually going to be showing you how to make a few different items from one decal for under $10.00!
I love authentic Rae Dunn pottery and I have quite a few pieces, but it can be extremely hard to find from time to time, and in some places it is nearly impossible to find altogether. We have had a “Rae Dunn drought” in our area recently, so it has been fun to add some new knock-off pieces in with my collection to change things up a bit. If you have a Dollar Tree near you, you can make several Rae Dunn inspired pieces too! *This post contains affiliate links.
The “chocolate” platter, “drink” mug and “eat” bowl were all made from one single decal and dishes that I recently purchased at Dollar Tree. The font is a little bolder than authentic Rae Dunn, so I put the new pieces on top of my Rae Dunn display cabinet instead of directly next to the dishes on the shelves. From a distance the difference is hardly noticeable, and the faux pieces are cute anyway.
I love displaying my Rae Dunn collection in this old 1940’s cabinet that belonged to my grandparents. The year before last I gave it several fresh coats of paint and lined the shelves and back with cute scrap booking paper.
This summer we are doing a small renovation in our kitchen which will mean having to move this cabinet to a new spot and finally moving the pendant light (it is in an awkward spot since we took out an odd shaped island that used to be where the cabinet is now). There will be a built in china cabinet along this same wall so I will have more room to display my dishes.
Rae Dunn Inspired Dollar Tree Hacks
I love spending time at Dollar Tree just wandering around trying to find anything that has farmhouse or French country craft possibilities. I was so excited when I spotted this decal with Rae Dunn style font.
At first I only planned to use the “chocolate” words but then I noticed that I could make several different words if I cut out the letters individually. I have always loved the game where you have to make as many words as possible from one word or phrase.
After coming up with more words and phrases I decided to use the little clay pots that I had also found at Dollar Tree to make some Rae Dunn inspired pots. My younger sister Ashley, recently fixed up her craft and art room in her basement. She is an artist and graphic designer who also loves Rae Dunn and boho-farmhouse style, so I made her these little pots for her art room.
3.5 inch clay pots 2 for $1.00
I used white chalk paint and a sponge brush to fully paint each pot. I sanded the pots lightly after the first coat. After the second coat dried I buffed the pots with clear wax using a paper towel. This isn’t absolutely necessary, so if you don’t have wax, no worries. You can also use acrylic paint to paint the pots if you don’t have chalk paint.
After realizing that I could make different words using multiple decals, I went back to Dollar Tree to purchase a few more. That is when I discovered that they also carry plain white dishes. How perfect for this hack! Using just one decal I was able to make several pieces for under $10.00.
Classic White Stoneware Collection
I made an “eat” bowl and a “drink” mug. Of course these pieces will be for display only since the decals would not withstand washing. Up close you can tell that they are decals but when they are displayed on a shelf and seen from a difference it is nearly impossible to tell.
In addition to making a “drink” mug, I created a personalized mug for Ashley with the left over letters.
I think these pieces turned out so cute! I texted Ashley this picture on Valentine’s Day and she loved the little gifts! We live 2 1/2 hours apart but I am excited to give them to her when she visits in a few weeks!
I already had a small oval ironstone platter for the “chocolate” piece, but Dollar Tree has plates that would also work for the chocolate decal if you don’t have a platter.
By the way, if you or a friend or family member has gluten, egg, soy, dairy, and/or egg allergies, then I highly recommend Non-Gmo Enjoy Life treats. This isn’t a sponsored post, but I just wanted to share because I know how frustrating living with multiple food allergies can be, especially for kids. Enjoy Life products do contain organic sugar however. While I don’t eat sugar on a daily basis, I do indulge in an Enjoy Life chocolate bar or chocolate chip cookies on special occasions. My husband gave me a couple of these delicious candy bars for Valentine’s Day.
Well friends I hope you have enjoyed seeing these Rae Dunn Inspired Dollar Tree Hacks! Coming from a family of artist and musicians, I would never promote the idea of “copying” ideas from artists or selling “knock-offs” because I understand that an artist’s livelihood is dependent on the sale of his or her own original artwork. The pieces I shared today were inspired by Rae Dunn using a commercial decal in a similar farmhouse style font and were created for personal enjoyment and decor purposes only. I love Rae Dunn and will continue to purchase original pieces when they are available in my area.
If you are having a hard time finding Rae Dunn or if you are decorating on a budget and love farmhouse style, then head to your nearest Dollar Tree to see if you can find the decals, dishes and pots. As of Valentine’s Day there were still several decals available at our local stores. Use your creativity to see what words you can come up with. If you decided to try out these hacks I would love to know what you come up with!
Thanks for visiting today!

Cute. I bought a couple of white mugs from Dollar Tree and wrote on them with sharpie. They need to be hand washed but I was only using them for decor anyway. I like the stickers on the flower pots. Cute hack.

I love these! My mom just bought a set of those letters for a whole different purpose. I could easily do this. I’ve pinned it for later. 🙂 I keep meaning to try my hand at hand drawing the letters on with a water based paint pen. I’ll post something on my blog if it works out. 🙂

February 23, 2019 at 1:26 pmHello, I used a decal that I purchased at Dollar Tree that had Rae Dunn font. I cut the individual letters out to make words and stuck them on white dishes that I found at Dollar Tree. If you can’t find the decal at your local Dollar Tree, there are listings for Rae Dunn letters and words on Etsy.
