If you are trying to make the most of a bathroom with limited space, remember, the design is everything. By using a smart room organization and a strategic layout, many homeowners are surprised at how much bigger their bathroom can feel. For example, it’s possible to free up some of the floor space simply by putting some things away where they aren’t visible when walking in the bathroom. My husband and I are currently undertaking a tiny powder room makeover for the official One Room Challenge, so I have really been thinking of ways to make the most of such a small bathroom space.
If you have a larger bathroom there are several ways to increase the bathroom space to make it feel more usable and larger. Check out these 5 Tips for making the most of your bathroom space.
1. Choose a Soft Color for the Walls
If bathroom space is a problem, avoid using dark colors for the walls, especially around larger fixtures, such as clawfoot bathtubs.
Dark colors can be beautiful, but they will make a room feel much smaller. A better option is to paint the walls in the bathroom a pale color, which will create the illusion of much more space than there really is.
2. Choose a Glass Enclosed Shower for the Bathroom
For the sake of space in the bathroom, it’s a good idea to skip the shower curtain altogether. Instead, go with glass. By using a glass-enclosed shower, there’s a clear line of vision throughout the space, which can help make the room feel much more spacious.
3. Streamline the Space Using a Vanity
Anything that helps to free up floor space is going to help the bathroom feel larger. If you are able to swap their existing vanity using a leaner model that might be a good option. Also, consider installing a pedestal sink or a wall-mounted vanity that is off of the floor. Even if the open surface area that’s now available isn’t usable, it will help make the room look larger.
4. Eliminate Unnecessary Clutter
Be sure to go through all of the items in the bathroom to figure out what is necessary. For example, are 10 towels and five different bottles of shampoo really necessary? Is it possible to reduce the items in the bathroom, while still having everything that is needed?
How To Have a Clutter Free Bathroom Quickly
Take some time to really evaluate each item in the bathroom. By reducing the amount that is stored it’s possible to reduce the clutter that will make a bathroom feel much smaller than it really is.
5. Add Invisible Storage
If there are items that need to stay in the bathroom, but that don’t necessarily need to be seen, consider adding savvy, yet invisible, storage solutions. Think about adding a medicine cabinet over the vanity, which allows the everyday bathroom items to be easily accessed.
Also, if there is a vanity, closet, or storage cabinet in the space, be sure to add organizers to the back of the door and even roll-out drawers in the cabinets. Doing this is going to ensure that every inch of bathroom space available is used.
Creating a Spacious Bathroom
Creating a spacious feeling bathroom isn’t something that has to be difficult or overly challenging. By using the tips shared here you can create a desired spacious feel without having to spend a lot of money on a complete remodel.
