Spring Home Tour in Vintage- Traditional Cottage Style

Create a welcoming spring home with traditional and vintage-cottage style decor, colorful fresh or faux flowers and thrifted finds.

Happy SPRING Friday my friends! Today I am thrilled to be joining 25 blogging friends for The Bloggers’ Best Home Tour hosted by my sweet friend Kelly of The Tattered Pew! If you are coming over from White Arrows Home or if you are just hopping by for a visit, I am so happy to welcome you! You will find links to all of the amazing home tours full of spring inspo at the end of my post.

Welcome spring, welcome friends!

Come on in! Recently I shared my new “mini-mudroom” side entry decorated for spring.

spring tulip and boxwood wreath I made a simple boxwood and tulip wreath for my pretty green door.

My new vintage style vinyl floor cloth door mat came in just in time for today’s tour and I think it’s perfect! It fits right in with the style of our 1921 home.

Just before Christmas we finished up the renovation of this little mini-mudroom entry and I am still trying to figure out how to take photos in the tight space. All the angles, stairs and small landing area at the bottom and top of the stairs make it extremely difficult with my blogging camera and tripod, but I snapped a couple of photos with my phone for the tour just so you could get an idea of how it turned out.

I designed the small narrow built in cabinet and shelves to make use of a blank awkward wall space with a random ledge that was nothing more than a junk catch-all. At least now the junk can be hidden inside the cabinet! Just a few springy things here on the shelves, including my favorite paperwhites sign that is perfect for this time of year when all my spring bulbs are blooming just outside the door!

Just to the left of the entryway is our living room entry  and staircase area decorated in vintage-cottage garden style.

Being an avid gardener, I love bringing the outdoors in. This rusty old plant etagere holds a variety of garden themed decorative accessories and books that can remain on display through summer.

I always decorate with vintage and antique postcards to mark the seasons or special occasions. Next week  my son and I both have birthdays, so these springy postcards seemed perfect for this time of year. Our family is taking a much needed beach vacation next week to celebrate during our spring break!

I love decorating with birds and bird nests year round, but especially during spring.

Just around the corner in the music room the bird theme continues. A vintage inpsired sheet music nest pillow is perfect for this music teacher-vintage-decorator and bird lover!

The larger floral pillow covers were purchased from Pottery Barn on clearance  a couple of years ago. This sweet bird pillow is another amazon find.

I  was loving these FAUX real-touch  coral tulips in the music room all last week, but I decided to move them  to the living room for the rest of spring where they can be enjoyed more.

The tulips are so gorgeous in the spring sunlight and really fool the eye! Over the past couple of years I have been focusing on a “less is more” and “use what you have” philosophy when it comes to seasonal and holiday decorating, so I chose to keep all of the other spring decor simple in the living room.

Along with the tulips, a trio of concrete garden rabbits, some pretty eggs here and there, cottage and garden books and colorful pillow covers mixed in with my year-round garden style decor was all it took to create all spring feels in the living room.

Can you spot the three adorable bunnies?

Since we are going to the beach and I am also just trying to declutter, I resisted the urge to buy new spring pillows or pillow covers this year. Instead, I pulled out some beautiful Pottery Barn pillow covers that I only used for a few weeks back in spring of 2018, so they are still like new to me.

Oh these tulips! Tulips are my favorite flower but their bloom time isn’t nearly long enough to get my fill.  I love that I can enjoy these beauties from March through May indoor.

Here’s two of the bunnies!

Bunny number three has hopped  through the tulips and on up to the mantel!

I wanted to create a spring mantel display with a classic look that could easily transition into summer.

After Easter I will simply remove my DIY French napkin decoupaged eggs and the mantel will still look perfect through May.

The antique green book set, topiaries and blue chinoiserie candlesticks will definitely stay throughout summer.

I also have added little bits of blue in other areas around the living room. Since I am transitioning back to a vintage-traditional/English country style, blue accents are a must have.

This very old chipped, cracked and crazed blue transferware pitcher is one of my favorite pieces and it looks so pretty filled with paperwhites.

I got the idea to use the pitcher while “shopping” my vintage dishes in the dining room. I usually keep the pitcher on display in the corner cabinet.

Since I knew I would be busy getting ready for the beach all this week, I didn’t finish up my spring dining room or kitchen in time for today’s tour. Still, here’s a look back at last year’s decor in case you’re new here or if you missed last year’s spring dining room refresh.

I absolutley loved my daffodil pillows in the kitchen last year that I decided to decorate the exact same way this year. Why not? If you find something you love that works in your home, stick with it!

I planted the tete a tetes shown here after they started to fade last year and they came back strong this year!

  French botanical daffodil pillow

My daffodils are in full bloom this week, including some gorgous new long-lasting varieties that my husband ordered for me last Mother’s Day and planted for me in late fall.  I will fix up a new bouquet with daffodils from my garden for this year’s centerpeice to share next week when I get back from vacation.

I’ll leave you with these three beauties from my garden in hopes that you will come back to see my spring kitchen tour with daffodils galore week after next!

I hope you have been inspired here today with some easy ideas for spring decorating with traditional, vintage and cottage style decor. Now it’s time to continue to be inspired by vintage over at Robyn’s French Nest.   Thanks so much for visiting today, and do come back again soon.

Have a blessed spring and Easter season!

Amber

    Amber,
I thoroughly enjoyed touring your home decorated for spring! All the cheery daffodils throughout your house shout SPRING! Your paperwhite sign is perfect for your stairwell built-in, as are the daffodil pillows in the breakfast nook. Yes, if you love something that works well in your house, I agree you should use it repeatedly.

Even though I’ve looked at this post 3 times, life got in the way. Sorry, I’m late. Always love your tours. I’ve pinned tons of pics because they are all amazing! Love that blue and white transerferware pitcher. I’ve never seen one like it but now I certainly have my eye out. How pretty would that me with a bunch mini flags inside in July?! Each nook and cranny is fabulous and has so much character. Enjoyed touring with you this week.
