Let’s Go Junkin’: The Country Living Fair Columbus, OH 2017 And A Special Interview With Rachel Hardage Barrett
Hello dear junk loving hoarders and flea market foragers! Today I am thrilled to share a special post all about my dream day at the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio last month! Of course the Country Living Fair is any vintage junker’s dream, but it was a special interview with Country Living Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief, Rachel Hardage Barrett that really made it a dream day for me. In early September I contacted Carrie Carlson, PR director at Country Living about possibly covering the fair for my “Let’s go Junkin’!” series here on the blog. Carrie set me up with a free early bird ticket to the Columbus event, and some photos and documents pertaining to the history and specifics of the fair to use in my blog post. She also set up a time for me to meet and interview Rachel! The perks of blogging!

Let’s Go Junkin’: The Top 10 Booths At The Country Living Fair Columbus, Ohio 2017
Welcome back to the Let’s Go Junkin‘ series! Last month I attended the Country Living Fair in Columbus, OH and it was nothing short of amazing. In my previous post I shared all about my day at the fair and some fun highlights which included a special interview with Country Living Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief, Rachel Hardage Barrett! It was such a interesting post to create with the fun interview and so many photos of amazing vintage junk…you won’t want to miss it!
There were 200 vendors at the fair this year! I came home with so many wonderful pictures that there were just too many for one post, so I decided to create an additional post to share my top ten personal favorite booths. Take a look!
The Farmhouse Frocks booth display was my most favorite! A lovely chalkboard and old rusty bicycle parked on top of a shabby tent surrounded by autumn kale and heirloom pumpkins had me swooning!
Hello and thanks for joining me on the junkin’ trail! This summer my family vacationed at beautiful Wrightsville Beach, NC and I had the opportunity to shop at Vintage Marketplace antiques shop in gorgeous Wilmington, NC. I was so impressed with the store that before I knew it I was snapping pictures to share with all of my vintage loving friends and followers and taking mental notes for a blog post. There was so much eye candy I knew it would be a real treat for all of you vintage junkers out there!
I first spotted the shop on the way to dinner on our first evening of vacation. It was closed, but I could see lots of rusty garden decor and salvaged pieces outside so I knew I absolutely had to visit at some point on our trip! When my youngest son and husband went on a deep sea fishing tour, it was time for me to hit the Wilmington junkin’ trail. First stop— Vintage Marketplace!
Upon arrival I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough to take a look at the gorgeous, chippy-rusty garden urns and architectural salvage outside the shop! I knew there must be some real treasures waiting inside. As soon as I stepped in I was delightfully overwhelmed by a vintage wonderland. The lighting and displays were absolutely stunning and set the little vintage butterflies in my stomach all a flutter! I was welcomed with smiles by lovely shop owner, Janie Perry, who opened the Vintage Marketplace four years ago. She designs many of the fun lighting displays all around the shop too!
I recently connected with Janie via email and asked her to share a little more about the shop:
“Vintage Marketplace will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary on Sept. 1st at our new location 5827 Oleander Drive, Wilmington NC 28403. We have all been together for over 4 1/2 years. I have a wonderful group of amazingly talented vendors that have an awesome eye! We offer custom built farm tables, hutches, benches, kitchen islands, signs, barn doors, frames and so much more. We also offer custom painting for people who would like their furniture painted, upholstery and monogramming.
The shop is very diverse…we have a wonderful selection of vintage, antiques, shabby chic, primitive, mid century, hand made sterling silver jewelry, steam punk jewelry, crystal diffuser jewelry, beautiful clothes line and homemade biscotti and gourmet chocolates.
We host “teas” for groups of 12 or more here at the shop. It’s a wonderful full tea, with several varieties of tea, sweets and savories. I have three facebook profiles for the shop…Vintage Marketplace (the entire shop), Vintage Marketplace Custom (features custom built pieces) and Vintage Marketplace Tea’s.”

I have been to some nice antiques shops but most of them were poorly lit. Vintage Marketplace is light, bright and airy! Janie explained that the building had previously been a lighting store, so the space lends itself to showcasing beautiful lighting and chandeliers of all kinds.
