Create a cozy home after the holidays with simple decorative touches for winter and craft ideas that will help you beat the winter blues!
Hello dear friends and welcome back for another “Seasonal Saturdays” post! Today I am getting together with a few best blogging friends to give you some wonderful ideas for the winter season. I am sharing some simple winter decorative touches and a few seasonal accents that keep me going through the winter months. You will find links to three other fun and inspiring winter posts at the end of this post.

After Christmas is a little depressing for a few days, but I actually do enjoy the quiet stillness of January when it’s snowy and the Christmas break extends a little longer like it did last year. No such luck this year! So far it has been unseasonably warm, then changing to bitter cold with just a few flurries off and on. To get my snow fix, here’s a throwback from one of my favorite snow days last year:
Typically we have missed a few days of school already in January, and I have gotten to stay home and do all the winter home cozy things. I was really looking forward to sharing a winter decor refresh tour today, but I haven’t had the days off to do it (or any sunny days either!) I am still dealing with stray Christmas messes and totes that haven’t made it up to the attic. Now that January is half way over without much snow, I am definitely “over it” as far as Christmas goes.
I do love keeping out my greenery through winter, and it’s one of my favorite ways to decorate in January. I especially love combining evergreens with Chinoiserie or blue and white pottery pieces. I also enjoy the look of fresh and faux citrus throughout the winter months.
Fresh lemons are great for winter simmer pots, and they as look extra cheerful on the counter on the gloomy days.
I kept my little table top tree out for January, removing all of the Shiny Brites and colored lights and keeping the orange slices. I added crystal prisms and icicle ornaments and a couple of handmade crocheted snowflakes. These shots are from last year but the tree looks exactly the same this year.
After Christmas I removed the berries and orange slices from the garland on top of the china cabinet. I love the look of the simple greenery with twinkle lights. I worked some of the lights into the china cabinet for a little extra sparkle. I also removed the red velvet Christmas bow from the large primitive duck and replaced it with a neutral one.
This tiny winter tin is one of my first thrift scores of 2026 at a whopping .38!
Likewise in the living room and elsewhere around the house, I took out all of the red berry picks and removed any red or plaid ribbons from garlands and wreaths. Voila, it’s winter!
Antlers, greenery and candles are my go to decorative accessories every year for winter.
I bought these plaid pillow covers for Christmas, knowing I could make them work for winter and possibly year round when we redo the guest bedroom with a Scottish Highlands vibe.
Speaking of Scottish vibes, I have been waiting on a snow day to check out two beautiful Scottish interior design books that my husband got me for Christmas. We are planning another summer trip to celebrate our 25th anniversary, so I am in total Scotland dreaming mode right now. I actually don’t think I have ever really come back to reality since our trip this past summer. It was truly life changing!
I am enjoying my winter coffee table styling, but it has been so gloomy and I didn’t get any really good pictures in time for this post. If we get a sunny day I will take some more pics and share a detailed coffee “table talk” post next week.
Even with the gray and gloomy winter days, all it takes is a few light strands, flickering candles and fire light to make it it’s super cozy inside!
Other than dreaming of Scotland, I am also dreaming of gardening! The fact of not having much snow combined with the few 60 degree days we had, really made me start missing my flowers and herbs. I did get a little plant fix this week, when my hubby surprised me with a lavender topiary and daffodils from Trader Joes.
I snapped a couple of quick phone pics when the sun poked it’s head out for two seconds! Still not very bright, but you get the idea!
I have a little indoor garden coming together on the counter. I will plant out the daffodils in late February. I have had excellent luck planting spent daffodils despite how bulbs are typically only in the fall. I think I actually have 100% success rate with this method.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing a few of my simple winter decorating ideas, and that it inspires you to create a cozy home after the holidays without having to stress about it. Now it’s time to head over to Calypso in the Country to check out Shelley’s beautiful winter tablescape. Don’t forgot to visit the other inspiring seasonal Saturday posts via the link up below.
