Preparing for The Holidays at Thursday Favorite Things

Happy November and welcome to TFT! This is now my sixth year co-hosting this fabulous weekly link party for bloggers and blog readers with Katherine of Katherine’s Corner and a fantastic group of bloggers!
NOTE: The party time has changed to 9:00 a.m. MDT (11:00 EST).

If you are looking for inspiration, want to share new ideas or make new friends, you’ve come to the right place!

Here’s what I’ve been up to!

I’ve spent the week working at our new home, carefully transitioning from fall to Christmas without going full on Christmas mode.

Here is a very dreary day picture of how things are coming along. As you can see I have started with simple greenery on the mantel that still needs to be tweaked a bit with battery operated lights, (new battery needed!) birch logs in my vintage log holder and some pretty winter greenery in a large Chinoiserie vase. The candles and cloche will remain with Christmas elements adding in. You are also seeing the first photo of the new hearth my husband built over top of the crumbling original brick hearth. I love how simple and classic it turned out!

Here is a before photo of the whole fireplace for reference.  I think the the addition of trim, mouldings and the covered hearth resulted in an elegant transformation that still looks “original” to the house.

Thanksgiving to Christmas Around the House

If you are looking for ideas, here is a post featuring ways I transitioned between the seasons at the yellow brick home. I am borrowing some of my own ideas from the past.
